Hey,
I'm a student and I was a best man to my brother this time last year. I took some money out and spent €150 which I thought was actually pretty generous of me. But, in hindsight, even though I'm a student, I really wish I had saved for a few more weeks and taken out as much cash as I possibly could have. It's your brother's wedding day, and if you're anything like me, you grew up with the chap and it's never going to happen again - you'll never buy pretty much anyone a bigger present so you really shouldn't hold back.
The only advice I'd give is to spend as much as you can. If you hear one of your mates etc. saying he spent €1000 on a Best Man's present don't be too surprised at all, it's a once-off and if I did it again I'd definitely have aimed for at least the €400 mark, and remember I'm a student.
As much as you can within reason. It will be appreciated, and then you won't regret it. Lads never show much affection but if you buy him a really excellent present that he knows you worked for, he'll know about it and remember it (even only sub-consciously) and that can only be a positive.

Hmm that last poster wouldn't BE your brother by any chance?
Try to resist the temptation to get something that'll be hillarious for like a day & then useless for the rest of his life (hmm, sounds like a wife...heheh...i'm so cynical). So my advice would be something that's at least marginally useful and make it personal...

hey there, what exactly are the offical duties of the best man.I have to start thiking about this as my gf is on to be to start organising things for our wedding in april.
I know the best man does the speech at the ceremoney
Collects the presents from the guest.
Mind the ring!!
My gf had to have 4 bridesmaid ( 3 bestfriends and her sister)
I had to do the same to match things up but now i have them asking me what duties do they have to do.

What about a voucher for a holiday like in a hotel in Ireland for a few nights/week. They probably wont get a holiday for a while after the honeymoon & might well appreciate it next year.
My brother got married last year & I gave him €300. Cash is always the best gift to give newlyweds. They can buy whatever they want with it.
