would it be easy to OC a dell? it's P4 CPU: 2.80 wit 512mb of ram. Im pretty new to all of this and i aint sure of most of it. So... should i overclock it? If i do cause of dell and there fag-i-ty case shapes and so on. will it be easy enough for me to put in a watercooler and an up-grade to 1gig of ram? plz help me out here

The up-grade to 1gig of ram should be easy enough once you know what type of ram is in the box already. If you havent tryed over clocking before then I would stay away from the water cooling.

Dell motherboards are usually locked, and therefore Dells can't generally be overclocked

oh thats a bugger! well should double the ram help the comp at all and an upgrade to the hdd? (it only as 100 gigs)

Doubling the RAM should help the PC a lot, increasing hard drive space is secondary, as it mostly doesn't have a lot to do with how the PC performs. However if you're running out of space, or intend to use a lot I would advise you to get a second hard drive for storage.

ok thx. ill work on gettin the ram asap and well i deffo need the hd i wiped a load of games recently cause i was running low on space and the comp ran slower and i mean slower!

Defrag is an option when you right click on the drive and choose Properties -> Tools

You should be defragging your pc at least once a month. Especially if you add and delete programs a lot. This is the reason why you get slow down and it will happen again if you don't defrag. I recomend getting diskeeper lite which will constantly keep an eye on how fragmented your HD is and will tell you when you need to defrag. It also does the job quicker and shows more detail than the standard windows defrag program. For best results start in safe mode, defrag from there and don't do anything on the pc until it's finished.

Have a Dell in the house and it ran fine on 1gb of Twinmos. Now running on 512mb of Cosair Value no problem. Its a 4600 btw.

I have a dell can't be overclocked, still good though(selling it,p4 5900xt) the psu isn't up to it, the cooling is not up to it and the mobo won't let you. Having said that it can run all recent games

Ya its 121 euro or 58 euro for 1gb/512mb del. from shop4memory - cant complain with that. As said other brands do work but check it out dont want to spend money for nout. Check your memory slots as well (some modesl only have two where others have four - cringe) there may be 2*256 in there so you'll need 2*512 for a gig. What gfx you got?

run cpuz (google it) and it will tell you how many ram slots or sisoft SANDRA will give you all the info about your pc. A 9800pro is good. Another problem you may have on your pc is adware and spyware , download adaware or sumthing and run that.

EDIT:Sisoft is in there,and just wondering if you had 160 blips, what firewall and AV do you have - check that sticky for two good ones; AVG Grisoft and Sygate Firewall might help ya
