I need to rant.

This is annoying. I applied for a personal loan from AIB to clear my credit card balance, but they won't give me the loan as the credit card is an EBS credit card.

The thing is: EBS credit cards ARE AIB credit cards. My bill is from AIB, I have to ring AIB with queries on the credit card etc.

I've tried to explain this to the retards, but because they don't know that EBS credit cards are just branded AIB credit cards, and refuse to ring their credit card centre to check this, I can't get my loan.

Annoying.

I hate large companies.

When crap like that happens just say "I'd like to speak to a manager".

Either it'll make them scared that they'll get in trouble and they'll check it for you, or an actual manager will sort it out for you. Or nothing will happen. But you won't lose anything by trying

in that case... "w00t to BOI". I was down there this morning applying for a motorloan and within a half hour I got a phone call from them saying it was approved.

Smiaras, I do that on my AIB phone/online banking all the time. They're talking out of their arses.

Remember the AIB bank in UCC asking someone I know to get his parents' permission for some operation on his account (can't remember what exactly). He was 23 and living on his own for the past 4 years

Do you use AIB online banking. They are at www.24hour-online.ie

I use them for convenience, paying bills etc. They are excellent, and even won an award for Online Banking. I do not know what I did without them.

Anyway, you can Telephone A Loan on lo-call 1850-272727. For 'Personal loans' up to €10.000. They are very fast.

However, many banks prefer it if you apply for a loan for "Home improvements" than other loan consolidation. If you know what I mean.

I have used a number of Banks and still do, but in fairness to AIB I must say that their online and telephone banking services are imo the best of the lot.

Give ' Telephone A Loan ' a try. Or remember a lot of other Credit cards are now offering rates like 3.9% on balance transfers if you take out one of their Credit cards

MBNA comes to mind !. You can call them on Freefone 1800 409 511 or online at www.mbnanetaccess.ie
and remember 3.9% is a lot cheaper than a 'Personal Loan' from anyone.

I have an MBNA Platinum Ireland C.C. and find them very good in all respects.

Normally the kind of card (EBS, MBNA, BOI etc) wouldn't matter, once it is a card issued in Ireland.

My ould wan works for AIB and she insists that they cannot lodge money to other banks unless you have lodgement forms from the other bank. Yet she also admits that the 24 Hour phone/internet banking can do it without any of said forms.

The problem is with the people in the lending department. I've tried to get them to ring the credit card centre and see that my credit card is in fact an AIB credit card, but they won't do it.

they are just looking for commission when you open up a new credit card account. Tell them to stuff themselves and look for a 'car loan' from somebody else. AIB aren't that competitive for personal loans anyway.

I worked in BOI for a couple of summers and no, you can't transfer between branches unless you've a pre-printed Credit Transfer for the other bank. They had to put it in place because people's handwriting was so poor large amounts of cash were going missing on a regular basis...

I once wanted a motor loan and went in to AIB. They refused to discuss approval until I agreed to move all other banking to them - current account, saving account, credit card, etc. I wasn't prepared to do that, so I walked next door to Irish Permanent and got approved in a few hours.

Go somewhere else Johnny and quit wasting your time (its costing you dearly too, while it sits on your credit card).

Well for the most part they don't. Banks generally are good payers.

If you can't be arsed ringing around, asking other people in the same branch and/or other branches whether they can help you instead of sitting on your behind moaning about it on here, so deserve nothing more than you've been given by them.

Sorry BuffyBot, I've also got first hand experience of this: Banks pay branch staff terribly. Yes, some of the financial offices of the Banks pay reasonably well but most bank staff are working on a pittance since the introduction of the Bank Assistant position in the mid 80's which essentially created a lower paid position to do the exact same work as a Bank Official. Add to that the fact that the Banks were notorious for hiring people long-term in "temporary" positions and you have a monkeys and peanuts situation.
