The A1 bar is now Grounded coffee shop.
Open for business when I passed yesterday. Shop is Mace while the pumps and canopy retain Inver branding.
Reopened last week, didn't expand by much but it's way less cluttered.
Who in the name of jaysus is buying all the coffees?
I see another discount store going in to Arthurs Quay - Cents. Going where EuroGiant was.
Idiots, who are too lazy to boil the kettle at home!
apparently from the guy who owns home savers.
quite a lot of foot traffic in the area. closest place to the park and LSAD also since the lock quay petrol station no longer has a store. there is also a huge amount of development planned nearby.
Oh interesting
It's a pity there's no Homesavers outlet nearer to the city centre. Great store .
I would say it is a building for mental health support that also happens to have a Cafe on site.
Is Powers small profits stores still about but under a different name………same family like
You are thinking of Pier 1 hotel. This is the A1 bat on the Dublin Rd.
I'm not. It's a wellness centre, resolve counselling services and of course a coffee shop. The coffee shop being the most noticeable from the street.
How sure am I? I type this parked nearby as I pass everyday so wanted to be sure I wasn't going mad.
Ah I see it is run by the wellness centre attached.
Sorry I got confused when you said mental health support.
Opened this morning according to facebook
On that topic, the appearance and general neglect of the former Pier hotel is a complete disgrace at such a prominent location on a primary access point to the city centre and sitting next to the (faded) grandeur of Sarsfield bridge.
Not content with failing to invest and modernise the hotel. The owner went shilling to the state for an emergency accommodation contract and then arranged for a change of use to allow the bar and restaurant to be converted into glorified office space for a state funded quango to move into. This HSE quango could have used any number of other HSE-owned properties for this purpose but of course chose to waste more tax payer funding on another property.
To add insult to injury then, they peppered the facade in cheap tacky plastic signage which is incredibly unsightly. It goes without saying that the potential of a hotel property like this in Cork, Galway or even somewhere like Kilkenny would not have been wasted to this extent and instead would have been refurbished and possibly even extended as a modern, stylish boutique style hospitality space with a restaurant/cocktail bar etc exploiting the riverside location and views.
It's a perfect illustration though of the utter contempt many property owners in Limerick have for the city centre and of course the complete absence of standards and quality control from Limerick Council also.
Why do people always have to resort to this grass is greener shte despite it being easily disproven. Corks relationship with the riverside is just as backwards as ours. Just looking at M&S or the Metropole Hotel will show that.
I've been trying to get to Kilkenny too and the quality of hotels is awful. It's all old school coach houses and "Arms" hotels. It's seriously lacking in anything modern.
Pier 1 is a kip, always has been and I agree shouldn't have been built in the first place as its a bland waste of space. But the council in 2026 can't force some company to turn it into another Strand.
Not sure why I bother because calling a mental health meeting centre an office for a quango just shows where your mind is at.
Fyi, Hotel Kilkenny is very nice and a short walk into town
There are a small few nice ones but mostly way more than I was willing to spend just to see Kilkenny. It's really lacking Travellodge or Premier Inn style places or even the George which is great quality for the price they charge.
Brevato Coffee opening where Starbucks was on Thomas Street. Someone posted on one of the Limerick Facebook pages that it would have been a good sized unit for a city centre McDonalds.
Too small when you factor in the kitchen. Add questions space and ordering machines and you have little left for seats.
I assume McDonald's is to be the new 5 Guys any time a unit comes free.
Wouldn't really consider it a new offering as stated by Rooneys when they announced it was leased. It's the same offering as what was there before, a coffee shop.
Maybe it's a better coffee shop now. One that offers decent products.
Not hard when the old offering was Starbucks.
Wouldn't take any notice of anything Rooney's say. They're the definition of mediocrity. Anyone who's ever been in their office will notice how dated it is. The building exterior is treated dreadfully also. Awful oversized signage from the 1980s, cheap crappy plastic windows and just generally tacky branding overall.
They're lucky enough to own a large Georgian townhouse on O'Connell Street but have no eye for aesthetics or heritage conservation whatsoever. Quite a bad look for a property business. Even 101 a few doors down puts them to shame.
I've been to a Brevato in Dublin's IFSC...certainly better than Starbucks coffee but probably equal to Frank and Honest in quality which isn't actually too bad. I only drink Americanos so can't comment on other comparisons.
Brevato is BWG own brand. You can get tis in spar mace and londia stores.
Passed by the former Olive Tree restaurant on George's Quay yesterday and there was work going on inside.
