I hate the heat too so the sooner this week is over the better. I'd much rather dry days at about 20°.
Stampede? Whoa! Been lucky when horseback riding in one of our nearby forest parks to have not been caught in one of the droves of wild horses when they spook. Saw such awhile back from a distance.
Of course, your reference was different. My mind drifts sometimes, and I’m still young. Oh, oh!
A friend of mine is from Ferrara, where it can reach 40°. He visited Ireland many years ago, and he was surprised at how warm 24° here felt compared to his home town. I don't know if its something to do with humidity, it can feel very heavy here at times in a way that it doesn't in the med.
I can identify. Humidity seems to make a difference when hot or cold. On the Pacific coast where I live, surrounded by thick forests, often with a marine overlay, our humidity generally runs high in the 80s and sometimes 90s percentages. When cold, it adds to wind chill, and when we get the Pineapple Express from Hawaii, the humid hot feels hotter.
Alternatively, very low humidity in the hot summer in Palm Springs can feel not very hot, although over 100F. Careless folks risk getting sunstroke.
Funny you mention that, I had a similar discussion a few weeks ago, during the first "heat wave" of this summer. Got talking to a Bangladeshi guy running a convenience store here in Cork. He said pretty much the same thing, temperatures in Ireland feel a lot warmer than back home. And that's coming from someone who hails from a tropical climate.
My personal suspicion is that it has to do with the relative lack of particulates in the atmosphere here in Ireland. There's less soot, fine dust, and other "stuff" in the atmosphere than for example over continental Europe or in densely populated areas like India or Bangladesh, meaning that there's less "stuff" to block sunlight, making it feel more intense.

See if you can get a prescription for melatonin from your GP. That’s what I’ve been using to get my sleep cycle to behave. Take a capsule about thirty minutes before turning in. I’ve also found that having a (cool to lukewarm) shower immediately before going to bed helps.

I've tried melatonin I fall asleep but can't stay asleep with it. Thanks anyway. Glad you've got domething that helps. I've given up trying to have a normal sleep cycle now.

Relaxing on the sofa in a short sleeved shirt and speedos. OH is in similar attire. Fan on close up to fill blast. It's very, very warm - 30 C at 3.30pm here in Dublin 7 and I was planning on going out for a walk soon. This is when air-con seems appealing. Did some art earlier - and will start of another piece when I get back.

I was bouncing between two cities yesterday, coastal city with 36 degrees and crazy 70% humidity, and a desert city with 45 degrees and 4% humidity, the relatively cooler city felt worse as your body sweats a lot. The oven temperatures were easier to deal with. But for me, its the silent UV thats the killer, with UV of 12-13, my skin can survive for about 10 minutes, so its really a case of wearing a hat and Sun factor 70.

In saying that, it's so nice to have lovely weather, we're just not used to high temperatures.
Just thinking about that, and our foreign visitor used to Italian heat finding it hot in Ireland, it works the other way round too. We had some visitors from western Oregon - they had a holiday cabin in Eastern Oregon where the ski resorts are - it's often well below zero there. It was a very cold, windy April in Dublin, and they were absolutely frozen!
I'm lucky, it's not too hot inside the house, though I had to spend a bit of time in the attic earlier and it was roasting.
Fairly comfortable indoors with the backdoor open. It's a bit shadier today. ChatGPT just tried to gsslight me, the sycophantic little turd-robot!
