OK so I wasn’t living near their proposed site in Dundrum and I don’t have to deal with incessant take offs and landings all day- and I don’t envy people who are subject to that.

BUT- it’s also disappointing - there’s no getting away from it- drone flights will eventually become more common - I’d like to see an EU wide framework for supporting their development in EU countries.

Placing a launch site proposal so close to housing etc was just plain wrong thing to do - but I do think Ireland has lost a trick or two here- and an Irish based company too.

That's one of only a million flaws in their current business model, but it's a big one.

You need either a centralised food preparation location that can get the orders to a drone quickly, or you need multiple drone locations dotted all over the place.

The current set-up was never going to be viable as anything other than a testing bed for the technology, it could never have turned a profit.

I'm not sure if you're involved with a Meals on Wheels service but the service is as much about checking on the people as it is the food they provide. Dumping food in a person's front garden is not what these services are about.

2: this is not all nimby as the deliveries have the potential to impact a much broader footprint.

eg, my neighbour gets a delivery every day except Sunday by van, sometimes as early as 07:00

Its a metric van so pretty quiet.

Compare the with daily drone deliveries at 07:00

EVs are only 50% as quiet as ICE because 50% of noise is tyre noise and wind noise. Generally. I doubt that's true of Harley.

I guarantee if flying drones become a “thing” to the degree that they’re an annoyance and just trivial deliveries like delivering a coffee, the sport of shooting drones out of the sky will take off - similar to cutting clamps - doesn’t matter if that becomes illegal or not - people will do it and few will object

People will use drone deliveries and then because of the excess noise will stop using them a week later. This fad was never going to be a big money maker

It is, but there is more than one way to skin a cat.

I could easily use a small cheap drone from a toy store to take down an expensive delivery drone, or could avail of some radio jamming gear on the black market and create havoc with drone navigation and communication.

As soon as the possibility of one of these things coming down on someone's head or into a school yard, or the middle of the M50 becomes more of a likelihood, its all over at the stroke of a pen, national policy or no national policy.

The water charges protests and the fuel blockades have demonstrated two very simple lessons to everyone in this country. 1) Direct action is productive and 2) the chances of you being pursued and prosecuted or sued for such action is slim to zero.

As others have said though, its not just a noise issue, thats just one of many concerns people have.

I think people have every right to be against them as a concept.
As for the company saying they are going elsewhere until Ireland develops a framework for them - I'd say they'll be waiting, we have far far more critical isses that we require frameworks and policy for.
