I bought a used ID.3 in january and have now encountered the problem where I couldn't open the charging port cover. I wasn't at home and needed to charge so I stupidly tried to force it and broke off the outer cover. I've since managed to open it but I need to replace the cover. Has anyone else had this problem and found somewhere reliable online where I can buy a replacement in matching colour? Or is this a main dealer job?
Opposite for me. I owned a Polo and was planning to wait for the release of the ID Polo but then saw the spec/price of the GTX PP and was sold on that.
Well lads and lassies. Last week we traded in our PCP 232 for a new GTX PP. Incredible step up in kit, power, economy. Stupid annoyances like having to turn off the safety stuff and switch to individual mode everytime you sit in, but I’m hoping to stick the OBDeleven on it to try sort that. When you set the mirrors to dip when reversing, can you only choose one side or the other? Would’ve thought leaving the switch in the middle would drop both. Also, is it possible to organise the icons on the main screen? Like move all your most used ones to the first page and the rubbish to the end?
You can only dip the passenger side. As far as the main screen is concerned (assuming the same as the VZ) there is some customisation on the main screen. The big tiles along with some of the shortcuts along the bottom can be changed (i.e heated steering wheel next to the climate temp). Long press the tiles on the main screen and it should show what you can change, same for the top icons and bottom icons.

Another question. Can you login to see the car from a webpage, or is it only the app. No access to the phone in work but on the laptop. Twould be nice to keep an eye on the charging while here.
Also, had the OBDeleven dongle work perfectly with our old 232 car. Had it set to "remember last position" of the safety systems, so didn't need to turn them off every time. But now, apparently, VW have installed some software that's blocking that option. Pain in the hole, as is always having to put the mode into individual. And another bugbear is it remembers most user setting when different users are selected. But it's annoying that I use IOS on my profile, she uses Android, and it just auto-selects the last one used. Unless there's a setting I'm missing. Oh, and sometimes the "lock when walking away" doesn't work. And I'd get a random message from the app that the car is unlocked when it clearly isn't.
I'd take all them over a squeaky fan belt, or a pool of oil on the driveway! 👍
Just an FYI for anyone who might be wondering about longevity on these, I got a lift in a 4 year old ID3 recently going for its first NCT, company car, over 250000km on it, constantly charged to 100%, recent battery test showed 90% SOH.
It's in the service industry with people/equipment constantly in and out but apart from being dirty, the interior seemed to be holding up well with everything still working inside, no rips on any seats and a decent valet would probably have it looking almost new.
Only actual issue I could find was one dead front parking sensor which had been stone damaged.
I'd love to know the savings on servicing costs with that sort of mileage!
Did it pass the NCT? Any major component replacements e.g. to the suspension etc. in that period?
That's a phenomenal SOH given the amount of charging the battery has been through.
Would take me 20 years to clock up that mileage, literally.
I don't know as I didn't hang around to see, next time I see him I'll check. It did have FSH from main dealer so presumably got everything it needed.
I know it's just a sample size of 1 car but it does seem from various SOH results I have seen - could VW be motivated to improve the battery warranty conditions? - e.g. from 160k km currently to 250k km over 8 years. It could nullify genuine concerns which potential EV buyers have on battery longevity. Toyota have an extended battery warranty to potentially 1 million km - why not VW?
Toyota always had good warranty and then on the opposite VW didn't. But in fairness to VW none of the other manufacturers have a million km on battery warranty.
VW warranty is lackluster on the rest of their cars. 3yrs. I'm not seeing any great desire from VW to improve things.
There is no incentive for VW to improve it, market share on new cars is probably close to where they want it. Where they are missing a trick though is to offer an extended warranty option and get people to pay for it. Same for sister brand Audi.
Are VW batteries really a warranty concern though (for VW themselves I mean)? sure, the next owner is probably new to EVs and would like the battery warrantied, but it’s probably akin to getting an extended warranty on a Toyota hybrid.
If you buy from a main dealer, there will surely be some sort of approved used warranty
Approved used is usually just an additional 12months. Often a premium to be paid of €2K-€3K to buy from a main dealer.
The Toyota warranty is a bit misleading. It's 1 million km or ten years, not many will cover 100k per year.
If they did they would have to service the car with Toyota 66 times in that 10 years to keep the battery warranty valid.
I keep getting a notification for an update when im out and about but says you won't be able to use the car for 55 minutes. When I get home it never happens, anyway I can force it? Had a look but can't find it. Its a gtx pp so version 5 im on.
I got that last weekend. It updated from 5.2—>5.4
I dont think you can force it. You have to wait for the notification to appear again and click the update to let it proceed. It asks you to exit the car and lock it and then it will start the update.
It used be the case that it checked for updates once a week. Not sure if that has changed.
Got update from 5.2 to 5.4 a week ago. Cannot see any changes. Still says im on 5.2.

Mine shows 5.4 alright. Did it ask you to leave and lock the car? If it didnt, I'd say you didnt start the install.
Did. Got message on the phone saying update done and complete.
My GTX PP was on 5.4 when I bought it at the end of May '25. The salesman seemed a bit surprised, but confirmed that it was indeed on 5.4.
I got a software update on Tuesday, from 5.4 to 5.6.4. Some small changes to graphics in the HUD, and the infotainment seems to be a bit faster. It took about 20 minutes to complete.
Ended up doing it when i was away from home as its the only time it ever came up. Couldn't get into the car for a few minutes when I got back and then another few minutes before I could drive again. Its on 5.4 now, don't notice any difference.
I got this earlier today but its gone now, without it happening. Is there any way to find it and run it, suits to do it at the moment
No it just randomly appears. VW really should have it stored like on a phone and when you arrive home you can run it but it's not like that unfortunately.
Its a cupra I have it on but seems to be same update. I'll try it again tonight and see if its there
I think you don't have to press OK on the screen every time you start up now?
An old trick by Chris/ Battery life which at least is worth a try. When you are sitting in the car with the ignition on turn off the car using the button on the steering column. You get the Goodbye screen. Click on the pencil option- if the update is still attached to your infotainment system it might show it here.
