On AI success rates. I did 7 natural and one repeated at 10 days. Synchronised 10 and 2 repeated at 21 and 24 days. Hopefully they’ve all held now.
Next batch of sync cows up for repeats next week. .
Would Keep an good eye on the one at 24 days for a repeat
I’ll be keeping a good eye on them all in case I missed any on the first repeat. I’ve always used a bull to mop up so the pressure is on this first year to catch them all myself.
I've a cow what will be 38 days post calving when I intend to start the FTAI. Would she be good to put through the program? Calved handily on her own, so no trauma during calving.
have a cow repeating tonight she got a sexed Rembrandt straw last time her first serve I have one more straw should I give it to her take another chance or go conventional?
Talking to a couple of lads they generally dont use sexed again on a repeat. If she's a pet or favourite cow sure what harm, she'll either hold or she won't.
@funkey_monkey, 3 years ago I had the vet out to synchronising my cows. I had 1 cow 3 weeks calved, said to the vet no point doing her. He said it woukd bring her around in 3 weeks time if nothing else. She actually did hold on the first service.
That's interesting. There are two that are 26 & 29 days calved. I was going to wait before trying them.
I might have a think about them.
If she was mine i'd go conventional.
I went conventional on her never fully seen her standing and and weanling bulls still following her abit but I'd say she was standing last night and there just horny lads, but if she's standing later on she will be done again.
On another note I don't a sync program before I turned the stock out 4 of them 3 are in calf so great success the programs has really worked well for me this year. The one not in calf is a two year old heifer, good chance she won't come at all this year she's putting it all into the calf and going thin, if I have to cull her I don't mind, Think if I have 19 out of 25 now scanned in calf.
Would another calf be suckling her
no she's young and not putting anything up on her back she's only a small pt heifer. she has a nice Rembrandt heifer calf a real keeper hopefully
Scanned a few this morning, iv a few more incalf anyway so must be doing something right. Couple served 50 days that are empty and iv no heats for but we'll get them hopefully.
Scanned this evening and that lady is incalf. 23/26 incalf. 12/14 cows held to the synchronisation, cant ask for much more than that
That’s a great result. So far I’ve
6/7 natural heat held
7/10 first sync held
8/11 second sync held
The last sync group and heifers are up for repeats now. I’m happy with those results and caught 6/7 repeats. I won’t know until i scan how many have actually held.
I'm very happy with it. You got on very well with the sync as well. That's two years in a row i've got great results with it.
@Barron lad@BeGrand2025 Those are great results youse are getting. I'm just sitting over 55%. Are you serving yourself or getting in a tech? Can you put up your protocols please?
For those doing FTAI, when do you give the receptal before serving? I'm giving it 18hrs prior.
Thats the one I use. Its the only photo I have. Ai man does all mine.
Thanks - that's pretty close to mine although the Zoetis protocol I use doesn't have the 2nd Prostaglandin injection on day 8. I leave 18hrs between the GnRH and service (protocol is 16-20hrs so I went for the middle).
A cow has lost her CIDR today. Was due for removal tomorrow.
Do I need to do anything to compensate or should it be okay?
happened to me before she came bulling 12 hours earlier than the rest so I got her served . AI man recommended another 2ml of receptol and she held. If she doesn’t come bulling I’d continue with the programme as normal
When did you give the 2ml Receptal - at serving?
yes on serving
anybody ever reuse cidrs
Did years ago
There are a bunch of research papers you can read that says there was no difference between re-used CIDRs and new ones. They keep working. I was thinking about it this year but the wet grass meant they all got dirty when I took them out. A pack of CIDRs is cheaper than an infection + missed conception.
