Wait till you realise you have to pay a departure tax to leave Knock airport, you'll lose your sh!t altogether. Though it will provide some entertainment for the fellow passengers that will be stuck on the plane with you for the following couple of hours.

just booked a trip out of this kip, it’s deplorable stuff , nothing more to be said, having to spend thousands of euro for 7 days away to get what most people get to experience for free for 6 months, an unmitigated kip.
Only silver lining is I’m flying from Knock and can avoid that other grim depressing overpriced pig hole that I usually have to transit through to get out of this sespit.
Thanks Goldengirl, I absolutely love this time of year irrespective of the weather. I have always loved the outdoors and the long day unlocks my childhood memories and makes me want to explore. Fair play to you on the sea swimming event today - as it happens I will be having my first sea swim of the year tomorrow evening but I will be wearing a 5mm wetsuit!
Admittedly, I quickly read over "worst" as wettest so apologies there. Anecdotally without looking at any stats, I would put this as the worst start to June since 2019 or 2012. 2019 had significantly cooler temps and 2012 was objectively the worst June this century by nearly every count. Many a lunch break or "yard time" was spent indoors in 2012 because of rain. I'll look at wind when I get time.
Lack of high temperatures in early June is nothing unusual.

Had 24.4mm rain overnight in Sligo. Last 2 days not too bad albeit only the same temperature as April. I still think Summers in Ireland are getting cooler due to the Atlantic cold blob. We get the odd extreme heat spell from SE or S plumes but now mainly NW winds in Summer instead of previous SW mean most days are 1c cooler. Then we get a week about 2c above normal and the headline is warmer month than average. But look at May. Perfect example. 20 days at least were cooler than normal before record heat.
This! Rain i don't mind, once the sunshine follows. What we have is rain, cloud, more rain, continous cloud, wind, more rain.
It's no wonder the Irish hop skip and jump on to their flights during the summer

15.9C, feeling that bit milder and humid today in Kerry, little rain accumulation of just 2.0mm, low trailing cloud with waves of mist and drizzle, at least can get out and about, hopefully will clear more later in the afternoon.

Out of Daylight Hours If you only count the time the sun is actually above the horizon (roughly 4,380 daylight hours a year), Ireland is sunny for about 32% of the daytime. The remaining 68% of daylight hours are completely overcast or rainy.✅ Final Answer Ireland averages 58 days and 8 hours of total sunshine per year. I'd take every third day, if it was somewhat consistent (but impossible). 😂
Afraid not, 11th June 1993 (the wettest day on record in Dublin for any month) alone was wetter than June 2026 so far.
Dublin Airport has had 81.1mm as of midday today. 11th June 1993 had 92.6mm (and 102.7mm in total for the first 11 days of that month). 1st-11th June 1955 was the wettest excluding that extreme outlier with 87.4mm followed by 1st-11th June 1958 with 84.7mm. Including 1993, it is the 4th wettest first 11 days to June on record there.
Similar story for Casement which has had 74.7mm as of midday today. 11th June 1993 here alone had 108.6mm (and 124.4mm in total for the first 11 days of that month). 2012 was the only other wetter first 11 days to June there with 77.7mm. It has records since 1964 so did not record the very wet 1955 and 1958 that DA did.

Going on the patterns of the last few years I'm not holding out any hope of a settled spell of good weather setting in. It was the usual burst of good weather in May - though that was shorter than previous years and the crap Atlantic pattern has taken hold once more.
We will get the odd day here or there of an interlude, but thats about it I reckon.

We're the 4th in the world for lack of sunshine. I think the other 3 which beat us are Iceland, Feroe Islands and the Falkland Islands.
We're amost 1/6th of the way through summer 2026, this is up there with the worst starts to summer I have ever experienced in my lifetime.
Yeah dreadful in France too
this weather is over a lot of Northern Europe currently too, its not just Ireland. My daughter is in France and since yesterday they've got 14degrees ,wet and windy weather. They're all wearing long sleeves, long trousers and every jacket they can find.
Destroyed on the bike again. Get me out of this kip.
Unlucky, my son had his yesterday. There were a few showers and had to finish early though because of rain but at least he had it and enjoyed it.
He said it was chilly enough for some people but luckily his mammy is obssessed with the weather so I had all the layers on him including the raincoat!
They're okay, like a lot of our public services, average at best!!

Is there any sign of warm dry weather in the forecasts?
We must be in the top 10 globally for a combination of lack of sunshine hours/rainfall combination. Someone more analytically literate may be able to compile the data. But it's hard to think off the top of my head other nations that get as little sunshine/more rainfall as us.

I took my full length winter coat back out of storage for today. Miserable.
Today looks bleak. Wet and windy. Full oilskins required for the dog walks. A day to make plans for the upcoming dry weather.

As bad as it gets. It would be a deplorable day in any month in Winter. Weekend forecast now for mild and grey also. The pessimism is starting to creep slowly but surely. Only 11 days in, but June so far has been has been as bad as it gets. N Kildare
