Hello people, sorry if its the wrong tag. Looking to buy a house in Ashbourne. Myself and the Mrs work in city centre (north side). We both want to continue driving. For the people who live there, is it as much of a pain as some people say it is? Like I would mind a 30-40 minute drive which occasionally stretches to 50 mins tbh. I think thats a fair price to pay for a house you like and in an area you feel safe in. Is that doable from Ashbourne (southside) to the city centre (Dublin 1,7 area)? Is there any other areas you'd recommend. Our biggest priority is safety, antisocial behaviour etc. We are probably being too cautious due to recent political climate but peace of mind I suppose.

PS: My wife probably wont be working full time forever (when kids enter the picture) but might return part time. I plan to get a motorbike license, as that seems to be the only solution to the terrible traffic.

Hi there, is there a perception that Ashbourne is a pain?

It's quite a nice place to live - quite a settled place relatively speaking for families to live. Granted, the two problems I see with Ashbourne is the bus system (very inconsistent) and the lack of green space. I am lucky in so far that I drive to work and that our estate has a quite a bit of green space.

But overall Ashbourne is a nice place to live - not much in the way of anti social behaviour that I am aware of, and certainly relative to other areas. It is a growing spot, with plenty of houses being built - two secondary schools, etc.

Don't know much about Coach but have not heard anything negative.

Well it would depend on where in Dublin City you are going and what time you are leaving, but Google Maps suggests it can take up to 1h 15mins if you leave at 8am in the morning. Play around with Google Maps, maybe tomorrow morning check what journey time it is saying for your trip at a time you might leave. Perhaps it could even be worth getting up early, heading up there and trying the trip for yourself at the suggested time.

Note I don’t live there, so can’t help on experience.

We work in Dublin 1 and Dublin 7. The thing is now that schools are off, it probably won’t be an accurate assessment if I was to make a early morning journey. From the people that drive, i was wondering if i could get a ball park.
