Perhaps he didn't want to work with Iraola again and / or thinks he'll start more games for Spurs?

This would be amazing. He's only 20 and already turning into a top midfielder. Can't see why they'd sell him though
he was literally never not coming back from injury/fitness issues. He never got more than one month from being out, before he was again out for at least another month. How can anyone expect someone to show their level with that sort of string of continuous setbacks.
tbh as a Konate replacement he’s way below the required standard I think.
Probably means a brand new contract for him at PSG.

for sure… if he can stay fit, im not worried about him. The question is if he can stay fit! Hopefully has a good World Cup now anyway, and comes into preseason ahead firing and ready to go.
Fair enough. Although based on his last 15 or 16 months I really don’t get how you wouldn’t be worried about him at all. He has 4 goals in 22 appearances for Liverpool.
I'm just not going to judge any player on their performances until they're up to speed, and I don't expect any player to be fully up to speed in just one month of playing after a long absence. And he has never, at any point since he joined, been available for more than one month. Every time he's been available for around a month, he's then been completely unavailable for at least another month after, and been knocked right back to square one. And probably square minus-a-few after the leg break.
I will start judging him after he's had 4 or 5 weeks of playing to build up some match sharpness - if he's not performing then, then maybe we have a problem… but to be honest, I've seen enough of Isak over the past 5 years (since the Euros in 2021) to not really question his ability if he's fit. An extraordinary talent. We just have to see if he can stay healthy enough to get back fully match fit and sharp again. Really hope he can.

I think saying 22 appearances is a bit disingenuous, and that's coming from me and I'm someone who has not been happy with Isak performances at all, let alone his fitness record.
Of those 22 appearances, 7 of them were for less than 25 mins. A further 5 were for 45 mins or less. That's over half of his appearances actually lasting only 45 mins max.
He only played 1032 mins, which is about 11.5 games worth of minutes.
Isak's body is remarkabky susceptibke to random injury. Hes like a high maintenance stallion race horse that is primed and cajoled for the big races, how Newcastle must have curated his season to ensure peak Isak is beyond me. Sweden are usimg a horse box to cart him round the US.

Why did we sign him if he's so injury prone? Surely, that's one of the key metrics when considering a player?
From memory I don't remember previous injuries being a big issue with him. I could be wrong
Looking at his record there at Newcastle. In 24/25, there's no injury of note aside from a broken toe. In 23/24 he had a recurring groin issue which had him miss 2 months in total. And in 22/23 he had a thigh issue which caused him to miss the first 3 months of the season. So… it's a not glittering clean bill of health but he stayed fit for all of 24/25. It's certainly there as a concern but lets see how he does next season before calling him a flop or a crock. It's all about him staying fit as far as I'm concerned. The ability is there, he just needs a proper run in the side.
So before it starts later there is always one or two stand out performers in the world cup who are relative unknowns and get linked with big European clubs as a result ala James Rodriguez etc…

What was the nature of the injury. Was it related at all to lack of match fitness. I like him as a player. Gives it all every time. He is very defensive. The stats of our number of goals once he came on don't help him.
He suffered a serious ankle injury on the back of that tackle in the Sunderland game. It look very nasty as his leg completely planted into the sod. I was amazed he actually initially made it back for the WC in the first place.
That was ages ago. Had to look it up and it was February. Hopefully he recovers and is there next season. He is a worker. Might not be the best but can never be faulted for sheer effort and doesn't pull out of tackles.
