Prima Facie sold out in about four minutes. I know it was the Gaiety but I was surprised with no queue or waiting room.
7 out of 11 iveagh are sold out. 3/7 trinity. Fairview doing poorly with none sold out. Marquee has 11/24 sold out. Nick cave at malahide is a disaster. Too after 3 arena shows. I think a lot of it is artists coming back here too often, the likes of David gray, the kooks, kasabian, Ethel cain, dropkick murphys are annual visitors. people have only so much discretionary money these days and repeat acts are doing to be the tipping point
the bonus would be if they’d kept the tracks to themselves (and I say that as someone with some of their albums)
Not to mention Nile Rodgers & Chic
Pity Irish promoters won't take a gamble on some acts that are touring the UK/Europe. Example A Perfect Circle and AFI but unfortunately outside of die hards etc the audience is just not there
Paul McCartney hasn't played here in years
at least Nile Rodgers can sell out his annual Dublin shows! Irish promoters throw in offers on every act touring Europe. They spend half their days pitching on bands/tours that don’t materalise.
the reality is often artists have limited dates in Europe, the fee/venue that makes sense for Irish promoter is too low for the act in question, they concentrate on bigger cities, the routing doesn’t make sense etc.
Aiken can’t make Paul McCartney play ireland. All they can do is putting in offers to his agent every time he is planning a UK/europe run. McCartney could spend 6 months playing arenas across every city in europe such is the demand. He hasn’t played Germany or Netherlands in a decade. We aren’t the only ones losing out.
Anyone here clued in to comedy gigs? Going to have a night out with former work pals for the comedy festival and wondering thoughts on the best 7ish slot to go for and same for 9.30? Know some of the names and seen some bits on social media but only seen Dylan Moran and Jason Byrne of them before.
https://ppcomedyfestival.com/
I was looking through and I wouldn't say there's a standout grouping. We're going for Friday 7:30, Foil Arms and Hog and Fern Brady
(Dylan Moran is, apparently, not good at all these days. Shane, he used to be great)
One of the group was at FAH recently so think we might be ruling them out as a result but TBC. Shame about Dylan Moran, seen him a couple of times and he was hilarious.
Yeah, used to love Dylan Moran but I'm pretty sure it was in here somewhere I read that he's become a bit of an incoherent mess 😕
Chris Kent, Chris redd, Scott Bennett on Thursday 9:30pm is very solid. Fern Brady and Larry dean at 7:30 same night would be good too. Would avoid Dylan Moran for reasons others mentioned. Foil arms hog would be grand for former coworkers but if one of them has seen it or if any of you have watched their clips would skip. Their live show is often just recent videos done live
what's the Malahide capacity, 15k? That always seemed like a stretch for Nick Cave - I don't know if he sold out the 3arena last time he was here, but outdoors in Malahide doesn't seem like the best venue for him.
20,000. He did 2 nights in 3 arena in 2024 and sold well. But it’s too soon on same album, in venue that annoying to people
Avoid Dylan Moran. His last few shows have been disasters.
On the Thursday, the Fern Brady/Larry Dean gig would be brilliant. Larry is fantastic and is doing a full show later in the year. Similarly, you can't go wrong with the Foil Arms and Hog/Shane Daniel Byrne gig.
Chris Kent is really on fire the last few years, any slot he's playing will be a winner.
Mike Rice is another favourite but a bit edgier and you'd want to know your friends liked him before you went.
The planning application for all gigs in Malahide this year lists a capacity of 30,000, and that was confirmed by the promoter as well. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean that each act will try and sell 30,000 tickets. I'm not in the industry, but I assume that different acts have different capacities, based on their supposed popularity.
Don't think it's still 'the wild god' tour
Was trying to google and find this years application as not easily findable on Fingal council website. Shows are budgeted on full capacity, only exception is the fairview shows which have switched between 5,000 and 8,000 over last few years depending on the popularity.
it’s still on same album tour, as he alluded to in recent website he is refreshing the setlist and adding old songs to replace some wild god ones but it’s still going to make up a good chunk of the setlist. Probably swap out 3 or 4 wild god songs and still leave 4 or 5 in from it.
Thanks so much all for feedback and suggestions. Any idea how much tickets are? After reading thread im tempted to go for 2 shows Thurs
Around €30/€35 if I remember correctly (for the shows people have recommended). Some of the ones in Whelans are as low as €20/€25.
Transfer not open yet
What kind of numbers has Nick Cave sold for tonight do you know?
don’t know exact numbers, just that it hasn’t sold much, mcd offering discounted tickets through that Rory’s travel club and giving away freebies to whoever wanted them in last few weeks it’s fairly evident that it’s going to be a poor attendance
midweek in Malahide doesn't suit a lot of people too. If it had been on Friday I might have considered picking up a cheap ticket.
30K is practically a stadium gig - how are the other Malahide dates doing? Are there really 30K people who would go to Malahide midweek for Katy Perry, or Maroon 5?
(Actually, I've just looked and they both have ~80m monthly listeners on Spotify, Nick Cave by comparison has 4m)
Promoters lazy and dull. Need to up their game.
Where have you got 30k from, max planning has only been 27.5k and generally they only have events at or around the 20k mark, very rare they go above 22k for anything in malahide but they have the scope
Last year's capacity was 27.5k, this year it was upped to 30k. As I said earlier, that was in the planning application and confirmed in face-to-face meetings with the promoter. There were 7 gigs in 2025 and that has increased to 8 this year. But as I also said in earlier post, planning-approved capacity vs actual capacity may be two different things.

No joy with standing tickets for Phoebe Bridgers for the Monday night in the presale
I wonder how many tickets were available. No joy for either night for me
I dont think having GnR on in the 3arena on the same night would have helped either, I'm off tonight for GnR but I'd have taken a chance on seeing Nick cave if there wasn't a clash,
Id have thought Nick caves music would have suited a more indoor setting anyway,
I think there was a similar clash a few years back blur and iron maiden playing the same night one in the 3 and other malahide,
Got in the end after lots of refreshing. It offered me seated tickets a good few times before I eventually got standing so I suggest keep refreshing
