Completely flawless drive from Kimi showing how good he can be. There's an awful long way to go yet but so far it looks inevitable he'll win the championship
Useless fact of the day, Hadjars 3rd was Red Bulls first non Verstappen podium since China 2024.
I can't see things going cleanly for Kimi all year. Look at Piastri last year.
Russel is no mug. It is bad luck that has him behind for the most part. A couple of mistakes here and there will put the heat on kimi. Mercedes qualifying for engine upgrade is joke of the year.
Russell just isn't as good as Kimi. Its that simple. If he spent less times being a snitch and more time driving he might close the gap.
Kimi made lots of errors last year but he has improved immensely this year. Very mature. Has pushed the limit a few times but overall he has been incredibly consistent. He will probably win at least another 5 or 6 races this season too which will be enough.
3 or 4 Max wins and it's a different season. Just as above look at how Piastri was going early season.
Wasn't it a slow pitstop that led to a team ordered position swap last year that started the demise?

Yeh and they de-tuned Piastri's engine for Mexico too. Although him brake testing Max and getting penalty was directly on him, but due to the team conspiracy for Lando.
I'm a big Piastri fan, but this feels different with Antonelli versus Piastri last year. There's just an air of inevitability to it. And he's crushing Russell too, which adds to the glee.
So Bono figured out the pit lane issue before the race apparently and told nobody bar Kimi is doing the rounds on SM after the driver briefing. Smart lad
Those speeding penalties are a scandal.
The cars were moving at less than the required limit. If the line the drivers took is deemed legal then the speed measuring was at fault and should have been let slide. Who thought it was a good idea to measure speed around a curve and not use the shortest possible distance around that curve in the calcs.
It should have been deemed track limits rather than pitlane speed. They were hypothetically mounting the kerb as they were leaving the pitlane.
Apparently Bono worked it out on the fly during the race.
Yes but clearly nobody had issue with the line the drivers were taking. That being all good, no rule was broken.
Alpine are challenging it. F1 should have seen something odd when say the 3rd driver popped up exceeding limit by 0.1 kph and cancelled penalties.
Bit of a joke. Everyone watching could see something was up. Bono figured it out. Rule makers should have been on it too.
Depends on how the rule is written. If the rule is based on a general statement of you need to be less than X KPH then they have a case. If it's written that it's calculated as the time between 2 lines, then no case.
there is no appeals process for pit lane speeding - you’re either speeding or you’re not, as you’ve said.
Alpine are firstly appealing the fact that they can’t appeal.
for what it’s worth - I’d be very surprised if bono was the only person from hundreds of people across the 22 drivers to see that cutting the corner would cause a 59.9kmph avg speed, and then also not share it with his own team.
I mean it's a long term thing that no-one cares about white lines in F1 and enforcement is loose as at best.
Anyone who cut the line should be penalised, be it deemed as speeding or shortcutting the corner. It was beyond blatant on the entrance to the lane that they were doing it.
If that was armco on pit entry and exit they wouldnt be cutting it.
Reminds me of Hamilton in Sochi in 2020 doing his practice start in the pit lane outside the designated space and then complained about getting a penalty. Turns out they were given a directive but he didnt read it.
Gasly reinstated to no3 in Monaco..
Alpine immediately issued a statement welcoming the decision.
“The stewards have rescinded the two five-second penalties imposed on car number 10, which reinstates the team’s third place finish.
“We would like to thank the FIA and Formula One Management for its transparency and co-operation throughout the Right of Review process and for reaching this decision.”
Alpine were the only team that appealed within the timeframe so I'm guessing this is the end of it as far as the rest are concerned?
Happy for him but its a pity he wasnt able to enjoy that 3rd place properly on the podium.
At least he'll get the 3rd place finish trophy.
Sure poor old Giancarlo Fisichella didn't get his winners trophy for winning the Brazilian GP in 2003 because of an FIA mixup, he got it the next race.
I like Gasly and I know himself and Hadjar are friends…

it has all the razzmatazz with none of the excellence needed on the track….

To be fair, both drivers have had podium finishes before so it's not like say a pre Silverstone Hulkenberg situation. Hadjar did what he needed to do and pick up points when Max fell away so its still a good result for him.
