Hoping a New Thread may fix the posting issues.
With Rio, Iraola's attitude with him is probably as important as minutes. We all know Klopp would have made him feel special, feel part of the team, but then still managed his minutes. And we all suspect Slot wasn't the best at that side of things. The way he talks, so far, I'd hope Iraola will be pretty good at that
My weekend brain doesn't work too good because I was like wow and went straight to livescore app to see if he got a hat trick.
it depends on the conversation being had… if the conversation is making out that a player is useless and could never contribute what another player has, then it’s relevant to point to when they DID contribute just as much or more.
It’s not a “who is better”, it’s a “he CAN actually play and contribute a lot in the right setup”.
Rio got man of the match
Spurs to bid 75M for gakpo....yes please
He hasn't improved one jot since he came into the team, for a guy his age there should have been some improvement. Still both error and injury prone too....he's chasing the money now and who can blame him? He might not see his career last past this new contract.
More money than sense!!!💶💶💶
Really???
The world has gone mad. Surely BS.
Take the money and run!
In the last few seasons alone, Spurs have spent up to, and north of 60m for Simmons, Solanke, Richarldson, and Johnson... And Gakpo is far superior to all of them. So I wouldn't be letting him go for any less that 70!
We'll have to spend close to that just to replace him.
Yeah,true- there's a good footballer in there at the end of the day, needs an arm around the shoulder methinks?
Nothing really to do with Liverpool, but I see Christian Eriksen has had another collapse on the pitch - very worrying.Wish him all the best anyway!
who says?!
Would ye take Nunez back on a free? Would provide cover for Ekitike.
Absolutely! Like, he contributes loads - he was a disappointment relative to his high fee, but the same quality and workrate on a free (even with high wages, within reason) is terrific. We desperately need depth and energy up front too.
I don't see why he'd come back though… he'll get a great deal to go somewhere else and be the main man. I expect he'll replace Griezmann (and potentially Alvarez, who looks like leaving for Barcelona) at Atleti, and be their star striker for the next 5+ years.
Papers seem to be reporting he wants back
With the squad the way it is I would take him back on a free in a heart beat!
"Cover for Ekitike"? Ekitike won't play any meaningful matches till next season is almost over. I'd start him on the left instead of Gakpo, or rotate them whatever
On a free, why not.
Ideally we are aiming for a higher calibre of player though.
With his pace, strength, and workrate, he could play anywhere across the front three. Be very useful on either side (not unlike the way Iraola used Semenyo)
Darwin would surely benefit from a coach who speaks Spanish. Imagine a Darwin who understands instruction.
Yeah, but would he implement that instruction?
Nunez's work rate up front would suit Iraola a lot more than Isak would anyways.
But I don't think it's something that the club, or player, should pursue.
No offence to Nunez but he doesn't seem the brightest. On a free transfer though, he would make a lot of sense. He provides a threat and makes space for others. He's a hard worker and doesn't get injured. There's a lot to like about him. His finishing was mostly awful though but if he's not the main man that would be okay. He was a frustrating player. Ekitike in many ways was everything Nunez could be including the finishing.
On a free?,I'd say it's a complete no-brainer!
I'd say he's a complete NO-BRAINER
100% bring Darwizzy back!
Even being hyper pragmatic, you could probably pay him 200k a week, sell for 20m after two seasons and break even
He'd be a good influence on the squad, a potential match influencer off the bench, the fans would love him
Like, even if he doesn't offer much on the pitch it's probably a good move. And I think he would offer something on the pitch
Given Ekitike's injury I'd take him for a year no question.
We haven't had an outfield free transfer signing in a decade (Matip)
We also haven't used loans at all (Arthur was an attempt) whereas most other big clubs seem to use them regularly
I think with the amount of work needed on the squad it would be silly not to explore both of those as short term options
Good piece on the club's finances and what to expect during the summer
We have Gakpo and an injury prone Isak.
Ekitike doesn't factor next season imo.
There really is a case for at least 3.
A really class RW, someone versatile and then another backup.
Darwin could fit that bill but maybe he wouldn't want to come back on a very short term deal.
Yes. You would really hope that the club has learnt from last summer that blowing a load of cash doesn't always work out. You've got to be clever in how you spend it too. Ekitike has proven to be a good signing. Was Isak really necessary then? And we waited the whole summer, ruined his pre-season to do it and blew 130m on him. Kerkez will prob be good. Wirtz maybe. Frimpong iffy.
We've got to be more canny than that this year surely. There's too many players needed. I would hope to see a few free transfers coming in, a few 30/40m players as well. I know the market has inflated hugely but there's got to be some decent players out there for better value.
