So…presales are on. How confident are we all feeling?
IIRC last year most of May/June were a washout, the ground was fairly saturated in the lead up to the festival, I don't think it's been that bad this year (so far) so you'd hope the ground is in good nick, but a lot can change in a week if there is a consistent bout of heavy rain leading up to the festival weekend
What would that clown know?
It definitely did get boggy as I recall on Saturday last year but nothing out of the norm for a rainy festival, with the right footwear it wasn't an issue. Comes with the territory I guess, but fingers crossed the weather sorts itself out.
Its a very small site, you would hope that they would have a lot of wood chippings for the busy tracks and bottlenecks so it doesn't turn into a shitshow like ATN a few years back
He looks at all the models, he uses meteologix for example, and breaks them down for his followers which a lot of people find very helpful. I've looked at them myself this morning and from 11th onwards temperatures are up and there is minimal rain across weekend, most long range models in agreement, it's still too far out to bank on it though.
Have you had a run in with Carlow Weather Frank? He's on Boards, has been on the EP thread for years posting great aerial shots of the site and generally very accurate forecasts in the run up. Seems like a sound man.
He did a video for my brothers wedding last year (my brother looks a bit like him but it also obsessed with his weather updates for his golf, festivals etc), we got a great laugh out of it when it was played at the wedding. He is definitely a sound dude.
I do have a serious problem but I will leave it there. I will be keeping an eye on trained meteorologists over the next days.
He’s also an Aston Villa fan so clearly a good skin.
Last may and start of June were beautiful the weather only really turned in the days leading up to BTP. Forecasts have it remaining rainy up to the festival dates at the moment but maybe man made climate change denying Carlow Weather knows better. May have some free tickets and will go for the Saturday, best lineup for me. Haven't missed a BTP so far but going to Germany for fusion in 3 weeks so saving myself for 5 nights of madness there.
yes, you do seem to have a serious problem.
WTF does that mean?
Hopefully the ground was dry enough to not soak it up but the next 7 days look shocking.
The arena held up really well last year under the Saturday rain. Sure if it had been two days that would deteriorated quickly the same any site would.
They were quick on some targeted straw in key locations and we thought it was well coped.
tbh, fcuk all, was bored in a meeting, thought your comment was a bit arsey so just reused some of your words in an arsey manner.
Not so sure about that high pressure building next week….
The forecast on AccuWeather right now is for lots of cloud, mostly dry and only the occasional shower. I’d take that.
Would anyone know the cut off point for gaining entry on the Friday night?
well there's Klaus Blatter - the pioneer of acid house of course.. genuinely didn't know this was a spoof alter ego of irvine Welsh.. is 'Klaus' any good!?
Flashback memory triggered....lashing rain, the Friday?, maybe 2023, last act in Strawberry Fields or equivalent at the time. Was great craic!
10pm in 2025
Seeing a turn in the weather over the weekend now for the Sunday. Hopefully that shifts a few days earlier.
Lol I see the organisers are outright lying about the weather on their socials.
That's more relaxed than last year anyway
They'll need to inform security about that, they were very strict beyond 1 open drink last year
Yeah although last year they did state 1 open container only. That they were saying differently this year is a positive
They're saying 90% tickets sold out online which I don't fully believe - what do we think on overall attendance this year? My group is up to 7 people from 5 last year - if that was a general trend then perhaps the 90% could be accurate.
I'm guessing it'll be more like 9-10k people this year, up 10-15% on last year (but possibly not enough for long-term viability?)
Much like the weather forecast they issued they are pulling those figures out of their arse I would suggest.
Hopefully it does get decent numbers tho
Some outrageous promotional guff, probably falling fould of the ASA. Hopefully the weather and numbers are decent.
Had a glance at the weather forecast on met eireann and started crying 😅 I would imagine nothing set in stone until the tuesday/wednesday of next week.
Fk the numbers and weather. Will I be at Princess Nokia or Stella this time next week. Hmmmmmm
