’Checking In, Checking Out’ by The High Llamas!
Steely Dan-esque! 🙂🙂
I liked his album Stainless Style
Stevie’s ‘Do I Do’!
Joyous 🙂
A lot of songs tonight that I hadn't heard often or at all before, and every one of them is top drawer so far, he's on form tonight!
Bowie’s ‘The Laughing Gnome’.
Not so joyous. 😐
Irish reggae, courtesy of Stockton’s Wing.
Should play the definitive version
Kentucky Avenue given a spin this evening, hard beat Tom Waites for a blast of nostalgia that pulls at the heartstrings.
’People Get Ready’ by The Impressions.
Absolutely glorious. 🙂
That Streets of Philadelphia cover was good.
He's a pleasure to listen to, and a very lovely chap to talk to in person. Very polite to his co-stars and staff, he describes his playlist as a 'musical pic-and-mix' and I think that's an accurate description. He has a style I couldn't replicate if I tried but absolutely someone I'd aspire to as a presenter.
Never did find out why RTE has a full upright piano in that studio though xD
That Choosing Texas song is getting a fair bit of airplay on the more mainstream shows.
Just heard him mentioning Kent Station in Cork.I thought Ceannt meant "station" in Irish.
Station Station?
Like the new Rolling Stones track, nothing new but if it ain't broke and all that.
Station is staisiún isn't it?
Ceannt Station in Galway is named after Eamonn Ceannt, he of 1916.
Ha, said that to her good self earlier, even the kiddies were singing along at dinner!
Loved the pair that followed, Charlie Rich and Tom T Hall...."real" music as the auld lad would say 😅
Great selection overall tonight. I haven't listened to Take me to the River from stop making sense in way too long, what a groove.
Thanks Must have got that wrong.I thought I had worked out that ceannt meant "station" in Irish.
Never heard of Eamonn Ceannt before.
You mean "Talking Heads",I suppose -don't think I saw the film.
I prefer their version to the original ,although I did hear their version first (when it first came out.)
Kent station is named for Thomas Kent who was executed in 1916. As far as I know railway stations in cities and some larger towns were re-named in 1966 to honour those who were executed- Heuston, Colbert, Connolly, Mac Bride, Casement etc.
Nice to hear Simple Kid getting airplay. Gas the way the likes of Radio Nova would rarely play that type of thing. Yet Creedon does. It should put them to shame!
Yes, we really need to hear the obscure track ‘Chasing Cars’.
😐
The Girl From Ipanema.
One can never tire of ‘The Girl From Tiger Bay’ by Dame Shirley.
Sublime. 🙂
It got a serious run across radio during tge warm weather there!!
Paul Durcan and Van Morrision beaming their way to me here on a campsite in France, ah if only it was on Long Wave and not the Internet.....it still has a touch of magic to it tho.
"The Days before Rock and Roll".…what a fantastic piece of work.
Random French passer-by on campsite: Vy eez this dj saying ‘Decky McManus’? I vaught heez name was ‘Elvis Costello’!
Our Town by Iris DeMent.
Love that song.
’Boxer Beat’!

I'm sure the fella doing the voiceover on the Skoda ad was in 'The Thick of It'
Jungleland, I'd say the big man is having a quick nap.
