The thrust of the point Unkel was making is the impressive efficiency of the Cybercab. The EPA test, being standardised and used by all EV manufacturers, facilitates direct efficiency comparisons across all EV's. In this case the delta is very material, being approx 30% more efficient to the next best EV. Sure its a limited indicator given the scaled down size of the vehicle, weight etc but it still allows for efficiency stats to be reported without being discredited. Suggestions of other tests is a different point altogether.
As I posted earlier. There’s 2 options. 1. Manufacturer supplied data (self certification) 2. EPA carry out the tests themselves.
I’d assume these brands test themselves before submitting to EPA for certification as it looks better being certified completely by a third party IMO
It doesn't appear on the face of it option 1 is available for actual EPA certification.
The framework enabling vehicle manufacturers to conduct their own testing and submit data for EPA fuel economy and range certification is governed by Title 40 of the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).

I'm reading that as the manufacturer doing tests and submitting their data to allow assistance with the EPA calculations. The recharge article seems to call that out in the tabular bit.
I guess you are always right. Yes the process is that the Manufacturers perform the initial tests to a prescribed standard in laboratory conditions that are prescribed, submit their data to the EPA who then conduct their own assessment "Confirmatory testing is conducted by EPA to confirm emissions data submitted by manufacturers" and ultimately it is the EPA that issues the certificate of conformity.
None of this changes the headline that the efficiency of Cybercab is the best of any EV (whether that is impressive or not is up to each to determine for themselves)

Not a stupid question. It’s a combination of a number of factors, including aero dynamics, motor efficiency, battery type and overall weight. Wheels matter too, size and width. Anything that causes friction reduces efficiency. Outside of that, you have real world factors such as driving style, terrain, temperature etc
See my previous posts. Cd is the same as the Model 3 but a lot of other factors make it more efficient, mostly because they resulted in a very low weight of the cybercab
as what the guys say, also reduced internals. Only 2 seats. Everything s out the car is about efficiency as the real test of these industries will be the cost of operation.
That's exactly it. Currently a Waymo costs more per mile to the customer than a human driver taxi. This is of course not sustainable. Whoever can do it cheapest - much cheaper than humans - and at scale will win the global taxi market. I suspect this will be Tesla.

What is the penalty if you exceed the KM per annum on the PCP deals, I currently do a little over 10,000km a year so would I be better off to sign up to 15,000km?
I ordered my MY in June last year. Pulled the trigger after they agreed to hold the registration for July, because it was just 2 weeks away. That worked for me. Gave me plenty of time to sell my M3 (which I still miss).
PCP penalties depend on the plan you pick. If you plan to keep the car, HP might work out better.
Peanalty only exist if you want to hand it back.
You won’t be as you will be paying 66 percent of the value of the car roughly by the time the term is up and will have equity. I am 14 month in….55k km done. In year 3 I will prob clear the PCP, sell price and roll it again fresh.

The RDW approval only applies to HW4 cars. It looks like for RHD cars Model 3 was cars from mid 2023, Model Y it was from around Feb 2024. So let's say July '23 onwards for Model 3, and April '24 for Model Y. That puts around 6,800 cars in scope for the approval, estimates from the US I found online give a 13-18% take rate for the 3/Y. So if we assume an 18% take, that's an expected 1,224 people would take FSD. Is it really worth spinning up a process to early adopt the type approval for such a small cohort given that the commission vote is due this month. I would be surprised if an out of band approval here had any impact on accident rates by Tesla drivers compared to waiting for the commission vote.
You said falls behind. Would infer we're falling behind. As if this feature is the future. Hence it's questionable .
