Kimi’s talent was always apparent. It’s no surprise at all that hes stepped up this year.

Kinda 50/50 for me that one. Tragic that Russell retired when he did, the second part of that race was kinda meh.
This looks ominous for Kimi now, he is the real deal and you can see why Merc wanted him in the car.
Kimi is getting the business done, he is having too many scrappy moments tho
Enjoyable race, would've been better if Russell had stayed in the race.
Unfortunately Monaco up next which will be it's usual procession after qualifying
they managed to miss a lot of the major incidents - would cut in with the incidents in popup scene and something else on the main screen
2-3 yellows for stuff that was not replayed until 10 laps later ….
Another good race for Alpine.
The Ferrari thread on Autosport are in collective mania over the 2nd place. All it took was Russell to retire, both McLarens to bottle it and yeah, they are in the mix. Better from Hamilton, you’d expect so on his best track.
Oh I had heard he was talented but this start is unreal .
Phew! That was a wild one. I think if Russell hadn't retired, the possibility of one or both Mercs being wrecked was high. It was on the ragged edge at times
Really enjoyed that - highlight was definitely the Merc battle and it’s a shame that Russell went out when he did, reckon that could have gone on all race!
But there was plenty happening and Max v Lewis at the end was a great battle. Nice to see them in good spirits in the cooldown room and on the podium too!
McLaren had one of the worst team displays I’ve ever seen, stemming from that decision to go on inters which looked bizarre.
Looking forward to getting Monaco out of the way and onto the proper European tracks!
Mad to think it’ll be June before F1 gets to Europe. I think once we get to some actual race tracks there, we will see Merc stretch out a bit, and McLaren being the closer of the lot.
I know people like to give out about sky and Crofty, and I usually disagree with them, but this was a bad race commentary wise.
Crofty couldn't seem to keep up with the action on multiple occasions, and the other contributors seemed to be stepping on top of each other much more often than I ever remember.
The pictures and replays from the world feed didn't help, it was desperate.

Great first half to the race due to the Merc battle. You did get the sense more fun stuff was going on in the field but the camera was just locked to those two (fair enough really). Once Russell went out that was it for the race as a spectacle. Hamilton vs Max towards the end was fun though. Nice results for Alpine and Lawson (happy to see him do well after how Red Bull treated him). The biggest fumble obviously is McLaren. Just got it so wrong. No recovering from it and then the DNF.
While it's disappointing to have that sinking feeling we already have a runaway leader for the Drivers Championship, it is awesome to see Kimi just dominating so hard. Feels like watching the origin story of another F1 legend. Also, I can't stand Russell. He always seems so self-entitled especially since Hamilton left. "I'm the captain now" vibes. So it's just a joy to watch the rookie make himself the new #1 in Hamilton's place. That said, sh*tty way to go out in this battle. He should have had a podium.
I have that fear also, but it is wild to think that there are still so many races to go. As we saw last year, a few bad races and things change fast.
I think Russells luck will change up a bit, his worry might also be a blessing if McLaren get closer. They really dropped the ball at this race but their pace is very close.
This season is playing out as a carbon copy of last season, only instead of Oscar and Lando, it's Kimi and George.

There's still an awful long way to go, I expect Russell or even Norris to be leading the championship at some stage. Kimi does have all the talent and Toto is the right man to get the best out of him but I think the Merc being the best car is flattering him a bit, he's still pretty clumsy and I think it wouldn't take much for him to get into a bad run like last season
Russell yes, Norris seems to be the closest to the pair of them right now. I would fancy McLaren to be fairly handy soon.

He is in that position because he’s in the fastest car and an immense amount of luck, while being a good driver anyway (even while looking like an accident waiting to happen).
In 2 of those qualifying sessions Russel had issues and there was no skill in a safety car coming out the lap after Russel pitted/the lap Antonelli planned to go in anyway.
