Honesty i don't understand this. What do the Antrim CB thing he's going to do? Win them an All-Ireland?

I can't see this being any different from anyother job he's had. Might do something in the first year or two but then lave it in a **** show and blame everyone else for it.

There's a reason Galway and Dublin didn't want him in recent times.

On a slightly unrelated point there's enough of a population in Antrim, for them to be competing for all Irelands in both senior codes. Belfast is the second largest city on the island as well. I know the Unionists wouldn't be playing GAA but the Antrim county board would have access to higher playing numbers than a lot of other counties in Ireland. It goes to show that there's a fairly inept county board running the show up there imo.

On that basis same with Co Down. The river Lagan is the boundary between Antrim and Down, so some of Belfast is Co Down population. Census 2021 Antrim 651K, Down 553K. History shows that these stats are not relevant to hurling success.

How many of those Belfast people would actually feel they are from Down though. County borders don't really mean the same thing up there.

Its something I have very little experience of but I have never met a fan from Belfast who is a Down fan in hurling at least.

Population definitely gives you a solid platform for some sort of success. Not saying Antrim have to be winning loads of trophies but to be very poor at football and average at hurling isn't good enough.

Antrim have more Ulster football titles than Derry, and are just 2 behind Down and Donegal. But they had achieved that before any of those won their first. Like Cavan they were a big noise in Ulster football back in the day.

Dublin are second behind Kilkenny and ahead of Wexford for Leinster hurling titles, again mostly ancient history. A bit of a revival is undeway there, and that would be where I would look for a new challenger to the established order. Antrim or Down won't be doing it.

In fairness a Dublin team made up of Dublin players has won one Leinster championship. The rest were all made up of lads up from the country.

That's true. When Dublin won Leinster in 2013. It contained Ryan O'Dwyer (Tipperary) & David Corcoran (Galway). There might have been one more.

Absolutely ridiculous really.

Even if Davy was the greatest manager ever, how can anybody succeed in their role with such a long commute.

Imagine in a regular workplace applying for a role in Antrim, and telling the hiring manager "I'll be commuting from Clare". No way would you be selected.

I don't drive but I live in a relatively well connected city and don't apply for jobs in Belfast. I'm surprised any intercounty manager outside of Dublin can get away with not driving because club games, training centres/CoI are usually in the middle of nowhere.

Daithi o se from galway to Cork everyday for that TV show he presents in the afternoon..

Paidi o se used get the plane from farranfore to Dublin and he was chauffeur driven to training in westmeath..

imo Antrim are more interested in just blaming everyone else for their own failings. They've been given a lot of advantages in hurling in particular yet still can get nowhere.

I think Kilkenny much like Kerry play the poor mouth a lot because ye don't have a media friendly figure like McManus or Lowry. But the truth is Avonmore/Tirlan and Kerry group are two of the biggest business in Ireland and sponsoring what are teams guaranteed (until this year) to get maximum exposure. The problem isn't money it's having the right people to know how to spend it.
