If eir is fine for you now, there shouldn't be any difference. GoMo is owned by eircom. The same core network is used and the supplied router is the same as eir on their 500Mb - eir fibre box F3500, just without the eir logo.
Can concur. Got installation five days ago, underwhelmed with speed at the moment. Current speed 61Mbps, even after countless reboots and router factory resets.
Have you tried a wired ethernet speed test? Have you tried multiple devices?

Experience was *not* similar.
Edit: should add previous supplier was Eir, who I know are Gomo. Also have had Vodafone & Pure in the further past. No issues with them either.
Do you have another router you could use instead to rule that out?

You need to check your router logs to confirm if the issue is your side or Gomos side.
If not sure how to, you can get a quick idea by dropping your router logs into ChatGPT for review.
Do you guys change provider every year or do the providers generally reduce the prices when your contract is up if you call them? Thinking of moving from EIR 4g mobile broadband to Sky fibre 1GB but the price rises from €40 to €70 after 12 months
You can re-contract at the end of the 12 month contract, but it mightn't always be near the same price.
If you have open eir FTTP available to you, GoMo is €29.99pm for life. It's not available through SIRO, NBI, Virgin Wholesale etc.
Digiweb doesn't jump in price as much as other providers when out of contract, so you can usually re-contract each year for a similar price.
Vodafone doesn't jump in price either when out of contract, but they have a fixed April price increase each year so you'd have to re-contract in April/May to avoid it each year.

I rotate every year. €30 is usually a new user discount price then it goes up.
Bar now that I've switched to GoMo I'll prob stick with it as I can't see anyone beating €29.99
If you go a few days past your contract end date (to ensure you don't get hit with early termination fees) does your previous supplier bill you for those few days pro rata or for the whole month ?
You should only be charged up until the switchover date if you are staying on the same network (open eir, SIRO, NBI etc.) and provide your UAN.
If you are switching network (e.g. SIRO > open eir), you usually need to give a months notice if cancelling yourself, even if outside the minimum term. You can get the new provider to cancel for you under the new IAS switching process, they don't need to give notice as it's a switch and you should only be charged up until the cancellation date that way.
If one is switching from Pure Telecom 500MB on OpenEir to Virgin Media on OpenEir, I presume you just need to switch the router ?
I called out to a relation who has OpenEir Fibre and Virgin ran a new fibre cable into the house from the pole on the road and a new ONT box on the wall.

Virgin Media doesn't provide service through open eir, so yes a new fibre cable will need to be installed. They won't touch your existing open eir fibre or ONT. Either their own FTTP, SIRO or NBI will be installed, you can check what's available to you here -

Virgin Media is down under Openeir for their Eircode.
Its NBI so, its a huge thing on the wall. Its coming off the same pole as the OpenEir cable.
Is the NBI network separate to OpenEir ?
Yeah, they are separate networks. Each network that's available to you needs a completely separate install, they don't reuse each other's fibre.
You can get Virgin through their own coax or their own FTTP. If they are not available to you, you can get Virgin through NBI and SIRO.

In fairness to the NBI installers they did the job in one visit and it was a clean job. The Open Eir guys needed 4 visits to do the same thing last year.
The new provider should really ask when ordering, you can request the new provider to cancel your previous provider for you when ordering.
It would cancel automatically normally if staying on the same network and providing your current UAN but you can now get the new provider to cancel a previous provider even if it's through another network, under the new IAS switching process.

I work for eir so have a fixed price for 1Gb with no CPI increases. Before that I'd switch yearly in March to avoid the increase. Generally between Sky and Vodafone or whatever OBS offer was available!
How much are you paying for the 4G broadband with eir? The 5G one should be available to you, it's €40 a month for 1 year and only goes up €5 when the contract is up. €3.50 April increase applies though. Much better offers available with fibre through eir/Sky/VF/Pure et al though.
Thanks for that. I just have a PAYG SIM and top up €20 every 28 days for unlimited. Its an old meteor plan I got reduced from €30 to €20. I have 5g on my mobile but the speeds are pretty much the same as 4g - around 130 download
You could get your own 5G router from CeX, Amazon etc. and a SIM from Clear Mobile (Vodafone) or 48 (Three) for €12.99pm. Or Vodafone and Three Prepay would be €20pm. All are 5G. If the Three/Vodafone network is better in your area.
GoMo (eir) with 5G would be €14.99pm and eir Prepay with 5G would be €20pm.
There's legislation in the works on this. Not sure exactly how it will work. Minister is meeting committee to outline his legislation schedule on Wednesday.

Yeah once this is brought in, you will be given a period to leave the contract when the price increases even if that fixed price increase was included in the contract at the outset.
You have to be given a period to leave the contract currently with providers who may increase their prices but don't have that fixed price increase included in the contract. Providers like Sky, Virgin Media, Digiweb, Pure Telecom etc.
It should hopefully make eir, Vodafone and Three shift away from fixed price increases every year.
It won't mean providers can't increase prices, just that you'll always be given a period to leave the contract if it does.

Anyone switched to Pure using OBS? I've got my first bill and the 1st (not a whole) month was billed at full price. 28 days for €32.67, not €28.
Ahhh, okay that's a bit different so. As NotShero said you can save a lot of money by switching to the likes of Clear/48/GoMo and just supplying your own 5G router. 48 are €10 a month for the first 6 months right now, for example.

I'm not sure though what the story is with throttling | fair usage with those sim only mobile plans?
I recall trying GoMo a couple of years back using my own 5G router. It seemed to get very slow after a week or so. I did check on their fair usage then and my normal usage would have been close to the limit.
I cancelled the sim for broadband and went with Three sim only. I still use GoMo for mobile and get decent speeds. Still waiting for ftth in the area.
Perhaps things have changed but might need to be considered.
The fair usage limit of 120GB should been removed for anyone who has joined GoMo since the 1st of November 2024.
I've seen some posts of 48 throttling after a certain amount of usage, but not much about the rest really.
