Chaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaampions Cup !!!
☘️
the only not that good part is meeting Montpellier machine again or this kind of (Toulouse/Bordeaux). But we want these games don't we? !
absolutely
I'd like Toulouse at home or either Bordeaux or someone like Racing away.
Would live an away game at Bath too. Or Leicester
Final signing, the lock for Joyce, may have been hung in the balance and now unlocked by Champions Cup
CC is grand but how far will we get in it next season? Prefer if we are good enough to get to a challenge final next year. If we keep our form cc or challenge games will sell ot regardless
I doubt theres going to be any more signings to be honest.
I think you are right about this CC but there is normally an announcement saying recruitment is finished for the coming season.
Shut up about Ireland job.
He's a Connacht man now, he's loving the respect and calmness down here.
We want him forever.
His name will be top of the list when Farrell cashes in his Saracens lotto ticket..…
The clamour for him will only increase in the next month!
I honestly think with the way we are trending that we can have a right go in the Champions cup next year.
For me Bordeaux, Montpelier and Toulouse might be the three strongest teams in it. I wouldn't be afraid of anyone else.
If we can avoid two of those I think we have a good chance of making the playoffs.
When you look at the team now, our backs are really good and we have plenty of cover for injuries. Front row looks great, back row is awesome, imagine having Boyle and Connors on the bench. . We could probably do with a big man for the second row.
This team is really good.
Stop.
This is the Connacht thread, only positive stuff about our future. No negativity about great people leaving the province especially about those who just got here.
By the way, a guy cut me off at a roundabout the other day. He looked at me kinda realising his mistake, it looked like Bundee, I'm sure it wasn't but he looked awful like him.
Bealham is not announced as signed yet.
Crazy how much the picture has shifted since Devine signed the Ulster contract, presumably late last year.
Yeah and as said for Munster, extra money, around 1M overall there, prob a bit less for us, expected with ChampionsCup.
I'm sure the budget for next season was made without taking it into account as it was unlikely
so even with "savings to pay Dexcom", 200 or 300K for a good massive lock may be available now
+the south-af boy rumoured won't come, someone else should!
What's your source on the incremental profit of c. €1m?
All I've been able to find is a Gloucester exec estimating the value of CC qualification as £250k back in 2018. I'm sure that's increased in the intervening years but I'd be surprised if it was by 3x.
Munster interview before they were playing it all against Lions it seems, don't know the original source…
Even 500K (with extra sponsorship, etc) would be enough, to use half of that and get a very decent big 2nd row (Dunne for exemple may accept this kind of correct amount to play real rugby again, even if slightly lower than Japanese paycheck)
If Jack Dunne is on anywhere close to that as a sub in the second tier of Japanese rugby he is absolutely blessed. I reckon he'd command €80-€100k in Ireland at best. He's also not particularly good.
He wasn't in the list of departees so presumably he was on a contract with an extension that got activated, often there's no announcement on these. Few younger players in that category too.
Toyota Shuttles which is the team Jack Dunn belongs to was defeated at the relegation match today. he didn't attend a few matches including this most important game. I don't know its reason. Anyway I think that he is not the player whom Connacht want to get because probably he may not fit artificial turf and Lancaster's training style. I recommend Cormac Daly than Dunn. May Ulster cancel the contract with Devine now?
I have the same question about the million.
Champions Cup participants fo get a bigger chunk of the TV money, I think that was to the tune of c. 250k TV deal money, beyond that there is nothing specific. It may be that figure includes anticipated increases in ticket sales/merchandising based on greater levels of exposure, but I'd love more detail on this.
@FtD v2 any insight?
No mention on his last contract of options. Considering the flux in this position with all 4 provinces yet to complete TH options for next season I won't be happy until he's signed. Personally I think he is well worth a 2 Yr extention but I get that if hes in the mix for the wc then Connacht will want the irfu to perhaps contribute by way of a poni. How Clarkson is viewed may play into that.
I can't think of any other senior Connacht player that hasn't been confirmed or not for next season other than Hawkshaw???
Hawkshaw confirmed as leaving IIRC
The season ticket holders (the majority of ticket purchasers??) would already have paid for their tickets. Where are you seeing an extra €1m from two games?
Thanks, missed that.
it is indeed. If Devine could change that decision now I'm sure he would. It's such a shame.
Frawley looking very good at 10 in the HC final 🙂
Pity Bordeaux have been so clinical that the game is long since gone.
O'Brien having a nightmare game too 😔
Cormac Daly has been with us 6 years ago, maybe it's not favorable maybe it is, for a comeback. Depends how and why he left, when he was 22 y.o
Crazy talk but are we sure Treadwell signed for 2 years in London?
Not sure of conn have plans to announce any more players but Cullen dropped a clanger post match saying "and of course Carbery is coming back" which was heavily rumoured but never confirmed, so seems like there are confirmed transfers that clubs haven't announced yet for whatever reason.
FFrawley post match interview today pretty clear he is going to connacht to play 10
