6 weeks done this Friday …used all sexed fr ..having repeats but nothing major …big improvement on last year
I presume you're using a lot of conventional semen beef straws as well though? I saw maiden heifers on DD for €950 today, you'd nearly get that for Jan born AA calves now
yes beef straws as well …all heifers got sexed and about 65% cows ….sold 5 late february heifer calves 750 bucks a month ago ….maiden heifers with good breeding ,records etc selling up to 1500 and more through spring …great calf trade atm for good strong Angus/he bulls ….equivelant heifers nearly 200 less

Who the f@@k dose understand. The Kerry farmers did there deal at exactly the right time. If the HTB had there way look where they would be now. Stores rebranded and reorganised and share price down about 25%. Try to renegotiate the deal now.

I had a look at them. They are sub 300 kgs. If they went through a mart I be disappointed If I did not have them for sub 700 euro even as breeding heifers. If there mart weight was below 270, I would have them.at 600-650

Tbh I never thought of it and I hate leaving them empty as well. There’s an Indian family and another family from Pakistan coming to see it next week. I’ll add a bit of culture to the locality 😂😂
Agree 100% with you Bass… I’m truly very disappointed in the actions by some of the former board members that are involved in the whole MDPO debacle… obviously it’s a free country but the MDPO is ran by people who in my personal opinion did nothing but blaggard everyone when they themselves were board members… the feedback I’ve got from the meetings is that the MDPO has absolutely no notion of where they’d go with the milk. I think what the MDPO plan on doing is:
The MDPO lads are dreaming that they’d get to represent maybe 600 of Kinisla’s milk suppliers (I must stress this is a delusion on MDPO’s behalf) and they’d give their time threatening to go elsewhere with that milk as a producer group and they’d hope to negotiate a fraction of a cent higher than what the rest of us would get — that is never ever ever going to happen. If I was the Kinisla top brass I’d no more entertain the MDPO than a homeless drug addict on the side of the street
Some of the guys involved in the MDPO that are giving their time now literally begging me to go to their meetings are the same people who absolutely walked down on us when they were co-op board members
WWe have stopped buying at the moment. No cattle sold yet and the overdraft is nearly used up. Ya.saw two there but one was only 250 kgs at nearly 24 months so would probably stay away from her. There was two FRX in Gortalea last night 335 kgs 660 and two AA heifers 285 kgs 780.
They eould have been a better option unfortunately not watching it
Agree with you on producer groups
No coop board could entertain the idea of producers group. The whole basis of a coop is that all members of a coop receive the same base price.
It's an idiotic idea to have a subset of milk suppliers negotiating their own price in a coop. Producer groups would have us in the same relationship with our milk processors as beef farmers are with the beef processors. And we all know what a disaster that has been for beef farming.
The mind boggles at the stupidity of an idea like MPPO
Is anyone here feeding minerals through the water? Have a small mineral issue here and considering it as an option. Is it an expensive way of getting minerals into them? And does it work well?

i was at the MDPO meeting the other night.. i am not a member and not interested in becoming a member but i went along to listen to what they had to say bout the new contracts… i havent read the new contract so i thought this would be a handy way to find out what we might be signing up for… they raised maybe 3 issues with the new contracts that they werent happy with… the unannounced farm inspections.. no mention of price.. and the threat to stop collecting milk from a farmer if he doesnt sign up… i would have to say the last one is a very very disappointing development.. as bad as the PLC were they never issued threats like that.. they just collected the milk and paid us..
3 of the Kerry Dairy Ireland directors came along to the meeting.. i knew 2 of them Conor Creedon and Eoin McCarthy.. dont know the other guy.. Conor did most of the speaking to rebuff the issues raised… at one stage describing the concerns raised as ridiculous.. Conor might know what hes talking about.. i dont know whether he does or he doesnt.. but it would be best if he stayed away.. he has a great ability to turn people against him… it would be better if KDI rolled out someone to speak who might be able to bring people with them in the direction they want to go…
What's the problem with inspections I wonder. What is there to hide. Committing as far as 2030 is the biggest problem I see with it.
The worry I would have is the direction they want to go too fast. Better they walk first. They need your milk committed for the next 4.5 years as collateral to borrow a further 300 million when they are no more than barely solvent at the moment with all the debt taken on to buy the business. Remember they have yet to file accounts for their first year trading. A red flag in my eyes. Ambition is one thing, managing a business is another.
Problem is see is older lads getting out and the younger lads who's left will be carrying the debt.
Something that nobody has mentioned yet, and I know it’s extremely far fetched as of now. But I wonder, in 15 years time or so, is this going right back down the PLC route? If I was a betting man (I’m not) I’d be inclined to think it is going to go that way. Everyone’s concerns are of course valid but I’m working off the assumption that everything goes to plan. Is it almost inevitable that this spawns another PLC

Its mad how many smaller herds are still supplying kerry, circa 1.2 billion litres from over 2,700 suppliers, tirlain for comparison last year processed over 3 billion from circa 3800 suppliers...
You'd imagen when the older generation die out, alot of these dairy farms will simply stop milk production, due to lack of successors
The tirlan lads are probably twice the average size and on drier ground. I don't know if they have the same grit or grá for it though.

All the co ops will eventually be merged as each one will be so badly managed at some point the will be taken over then 1 will remain and it to will have problems but it will be the farmers will bail it out this is what happened in nz it will and is happening here
What is your mineral issue 🤔 and to be honest if you use really good quality mineral in the parlour it should cure things ........ that is if the issue is with the milking herd
Using flowmag with trace elements in the water here with years. Works fine. No grass tetany.
