MotoGP 2026 Season

The traditional current raiser - the Valancia test - takes place Tuesday 18th.

The highly anticipated debut of WSBK Champion Toprak on #7 Pramac Yamaha will take place ,while Diego Moreira will make his debut #11 LCR Honda.

All Factory riders and test riders are expected to run ,the only exception being the injured Marc Marquez.

Nicola Bulega will take his place , while Alex Marquez will get his hands on a GP26 for the first time alongside Pecco and Diggia. Frankie* (Peccos bike) and Aldeguair will have GP25s.

Yamaha are expected to run the new V4 after Yamaha confirmed the end of the inline 4 engine.

*Breaking news, Frankie Morbidelli fractured his left hand in the start line incident, #13 VR Academy rider Vietti will ride the bike today.

Official Announcements now starting to be made ; Tech3 staying with KTM, Davide Brivio departing Trackhouse, Alberto Puig stepping down at Honda and rider confirmations that Mir is leaving Honda (rumours say Gresini bound) and Ogura is leaving Trackhouse Aprilla (rumours say Yamaha factory team).

The king of Barcelona, Alex Marquez, has won the sprint and starts favourite for the main race tomorrow.

Casey O'Gorman has not been so fortunate,12th in qualifying but demoted to 24th, a 12 place penalty for slow riding during qualifying 1.

Concerns about the safety of the Barcelona track have been to the fore ,limited run off areas have seen bikes hitting the air fence and coming back towards the riders.

Tomorrows main race is expected to be Alex Marquez battling with Pedro Acosta, Diggia in the mix and Mr.Sunday, Bez, threatening the podium.

Now that was an eventful day at the races! Delighted for P1, P2 and P3 placements but disappointed tyre pressure meant P2 lost out.

Today was a good day for Motogp, in fact you could say that about the whole weekend, all riders are relatively ok after a number of horrendous accidents.

Alex Marquez appears to only have shoulder fractures after his horrendous collision with Pedro Acosta when the latter's bike faltered,Johann Zarco has left leg injuries following his crash which saw his leg trapped under the bike of Pecco Bagnia.

Fabio DiGiantonio has a left hand injury after suspension parts from Alex's bike hit him.

Jorge Martin had to frightening accidents earlier in the weekend, those who remember the tragic accident of Luis Salom at this track know how eerily similar Jorges accidents were.

Jorge has already apologised to his team for his reaction in the pits, for me the story ends there. Pedro Acosta has already criticised Moto GP for restarting the race for a third time and I am sure that I wasnt the only person who wanted this weekend in Barcelona over.

5 of the finishers received penalties, its a weekend to forget....

Prior to the weekend Luca Marini called on the riders to be more active concerning safery, its twenty years since the horrendous first corner crash at Barcelona, and while Alex's crash could never be planned for ,why was there gravel in between the grass, the gravel caused the bike to barrel roll.

Ending on a happier note, Casey rode fabulously to get 10th, his 12 place penalty on Saturday felt a bit excessive.

Alex's crash was a big one and lucky of the outcome for all, now as a person who used to love in f1 the dash back to the pits for the spare car on a race stop I hated that so many were able to restart this race this weekend but that wasn't the problem, it was the multiple restarts really and the apparent dangers ….. the **** show at the end is just embarrassing really.

After the Hungarian GP were Moto gp bikes struggled to pass each other, the question left to ponder is ,is Marc a contender for 2026 championship?,

The Balaton circuit played to Marcs strengths and Jorges wipe out of Bez,Raul and Diggia made it a relatively straight forward run to the flag once Pedro was passed.

This weekend we are back to a proper circuit ,Brno ,a track that will suit the Aprillas and will answer the question is Marc a contender.

Brno will also have significant importance as one way or another riders plans for '27 will be unveiled.

The motogp version of the concorde agreement has apparently been signed which should see a lifting of the teams self imposed rider announcement ban.

And if there are any doubts ,Monday 22nd see the first tests of the '27 850cc Bikes , Bez will test the Aprilla , Jorge won't ,as hes on his way to Yamaha.

In fact testing will be somewhat limited with only Bez(Aprilla),Marc and Aldeguair (Ducati) ,Toprak (Yamaha) staying with their current teams. Pol and Dani will test for KTM. The oddity is Honda were it has been decided that allowing Mir (Ducati bound), and Marini (hoping to get the 2nd Trackhouse Aprilla) to test the '27 is more beneficial than allowing Moreira and Nalagami(test rider) , Zarco getting injured has impacted their plans significantly.

Brno normally gives good racing, and as a spectator it is one of the best tracks you can visit.

Bez/Gonzalez and Quilles probably start favourites across the three categories.

After an exciting Czech sprint race today the stunning news tonight is that world championship leader Marco Bezzachi is banned for the rest of the weekend after he 'pushed and struck ' a marshal following an earlier accident during the sprint race.

Aprilla have the right ro appeal.

Closest championship challenger Jorge Martin has a double long lap penalty to take after an incident in Hungary.

Both Bez and Martin have struggled this weekend ,Ai Ogura being Aprillas fastest rider so far this weekend.

Appeal has failed and Bez remains suspended, there is a final appeal option available to Aprilla that could still see Bez participate tomorrow.

The 'understanding ' is that the Stewards have taken issue with the second strike not the initial altercation were its believed the Marshal revved the engine.

With Assen next week were Aprilla traditionally go well , the decision maybe to accept the suspension now and start afresh next weekend, and ,let's be realistic,hope Ogura can keep Marcs gains to a minimum tomorrow.

Unfortunate incident, brilliant Moto 3 race , and Moto 2 is shaping up to be a classic

Fabulous weekend of racing at Brno , probably one of my favourite tracks to visit, it tends to deliver great wheel to wheel racing.

All 3 races and the sprint were crackers, the undoubted take away being any notion of run away leaders in any of the 3 divisions is put to bed.

Marc is the big story, championship challenge is back on track , Aprilla and Bez in particular have a great opportunity for redemption at Assen, another wonderful circuit to to !, but the following round is Sachensring were anything less than 37 points for Marc would be a shock.

Today was supposed to be all about the 850s debut and the first proper Pirelli test, but thats all been overshadowed with the big news - front holeshot devices are banned with immediate effect ,and from Sachensring there will be an extra metre between the rows, 3 bikes per row has been retained.

The 'behind closed doors ' test leaks have started , Aprillas 850 bike was fastest.

Followed by Ducati,KTM, then a second gap to Honda with Yamaha further behind.

Its only the first test, teams might be sandbagging (Marc also had an off), but the teams order is fairly much in line with the 1000s

Bez has been released from hospital following his crash during today's race , while in 'severe ' pain ,Bez has no serious injuries.

KTM - Pedro Acostas KTM did NOT suffer another system shut down during the race, Pedro has revealed he suffered a loss of feeling in his right fingers and is scheduled for surgery this week, on board showed Pedro shaking his hand vigorously as he slowed.

Moto 2 and 3 were classics.

60+ points gained in the last 2 rounds !

Is Ai Ogura in the world championship mix ? ,would have been deemed delusional a few weeks ago ,but now Ai is only 25 points off leading the championship, if his bike had not failed at COTA it would be 9 points.

Bez and Marquez remain the main contenders, but Bezs sprint results and Sundays letting him down recently have seen Jorge Martin take over the championship- a championship Jorge says he cannot win with his injuries.

Marc is still injured , Beleton park, and next weekends Sachsenring will cover up the extent ,but a prolonged championship challenge will need recovery, the Silverstone round in August will be indicative.

Ducatis main challenges is Diggia, consistently in the top 5 all season, Diggia lacks that outright Sunday pace but his ride back to 4th and that 'overtake ' on Marc, makes Diggia a rider that just could surprise.

A long shot is Raul Fernandez, if Raul has finally turned the corner, the former (dominant) Moto 2 champion might just pull off the biggest shock in recent history.

Ai when asked if he was in the championship replied 'the math say so' , cool,calm and effective is Ai.

Moto 2 was an all time classic ,had to look at that last corner replay a few times to see how Alonso pinched it from Gonzalez and Senna.

Moto 3 was a great battle at the front between runaway championship leader Quilles and Almansa.

Great ride to from Casey O'Gorman, unlucky with track limits in qualifying but top 10 on race day.

Next its Sacshsenring - Marcs favourite track ,in truth it will all be about who comes second.

There is a rumour going around at the moment that there might be a mid season rider swap.....

Not Maverick out at KTM which would not be a shock but rather Fabio Quartararo switching early to Honda.

Yamaha and Fabio have fallen out to the extent that Fabio is openly criticising the team despite their attempts to stop him.

Johann Zarco is out for the rest of the season at a minimum, Cal is the temporary replacement keeping the seat warm for Fabio.

The road block is Yamaha......

Cal has been confirmed to ride again next weekend for (LCR) Honda who run factory contracted rider Diego Moreira on the other bike.

Very good news on Johan Zarcos recovery.

The LCR team have issued a comprehensive statement that the injuries will not need surgery and only the ACL is torn, continued rehabilitation should see a return to the track in September.

Great news ,with massive implications, Any thoughts of an early Fabio move are off, and Luca Marinis hopes of staying at Honda are dashed.

Rider announcements this week have been as expected; the only question marks are Bulega at VR46 which is all but done ,and the Tech 3 KTMs - Marini and Ageis is the favoured choice of KTM ,but that leaves Gonzalez without a ride .

Have an Australian in MotoGp or have the (probable) Moto 2 champion is the decision.
