It was another poster that mentioned alternative wheel trims. For a €20K new EV, it wouldn’t bother me personally. Alloys can be easily retrofitted if it was an issue.
same, took the surf out yesterday for spin from the local byd, it’s our 2nd car and will only be used locally, but the polo just looks nicer
Yes I agree, extra room the back too for another person and boot is bigger too, anyone know if the trend trim comes with 360 rear camera and heated seats, not that that is a deal,breaker . I think the infotainment on the ID polo is better than the Byd ….but if the price + deliver is under 22k I will definitely get the ID. VW dealer today told me come back in July to order/doesn’t know when expected thought, I need it by end Sept so hopefully it’ll arrive around then ..
New to the world of EVs and I'm now contemplating an id.polo trend.
Would it be suitable to charge the base spec battery mainly via a household socket and granny charger?
How long approx would it take to charge?
Daily mileage of about 25kms.

It’s possible but it would take about 16 hours empty to full. (37kWh at say 2.3kW per hour)
As a temporary solution it would be fine but you’d be better off putting in a proper 7kW wallbox.
For a smaller battery car and a lower mileage driver a slow charge becomes pretty viable though doesnt it?
Should be pretty easy to bring it up to 100% when needed once not at a very low SOC.
I wouldnt rule that one out, nicely cost effective to slow charge that car
You can charge at 3.7kw from a strengthened 16amp socket without a wall box. You will have to research that for yourself but it is a cheaper install and fine for a 37kWh battery pack.
The five door id.1 next year will have a smaller battery but should still be polo sized inside and 5 door.
Cost effective for sure but not without risk of melting a 13A socket. Irish/UK 3 pin plug/sockets aren’t really up to pulling 2-3kW continuously. Hence my recommendation to install a 7kW unit.
I granny charged at my da's (so grandad charged strictly speaking) using an extension cable to a socket in the garage. I thought I was being safe by lowering the charging amps to 10 on the iX but came back from a match 7 hrs later to a melted extension cord plug and a badly scorched socket. This was early on in my ownership and I haven't granny charged a bev since ( daily granny charged a phev without issues for 4+ years though). If I was forced to granny charge from a standard socket again I'd be lowering the amps to 5 or 6 and keeping a VERY close eye on it.

is the trend the base model. ? It’s listed as €19,885. Frank Keane or Joe Duffy might add extras. But places outside Dublin are less likely
All will be revealed in July when VW Dealers advertise prices and quote for new ID.Polo orders. An old brochure for the e-Up mentions a maximum delivery charge of €850 if a service pack is not purchased in the fine print below. Some VW dealers are more competitive than others particularly outside Dublin.

As a matter of interest what is included in a service pack - is it 3 years free servicing and how much is that extra?
From the fine print on the e-Up brochure;
S Pack’ Service Plan includes one service, with pollen filter and brake fluid replacement.
€1150 - €850 = €300 extra, seems expensive considering it was 2022 prices.
Any updates on the GTI model?
we’ve only ever granny charged a 21 model leaf without any issues from new. Usually once or maybe twice a week at most. Sounds like a dodgy extension cable was the issue here. It would be perfectly fine for a small battery id polo using vw cable to direct to a properly installed outdoor socket.

Yeah looks lovely….a bit disappointed with the power. Surely closer to 300bhp would have been fairly achievable.
Will be a great seller, especially if they keep delivery and related charges around 850. Service intervals of 2 years would be appealing also, which is about the best you could expect from a legacy automaker.
how much will the GTI be ?
The video mentions 40k but I hope not. We have been looking at EVs a while but are holding off.

That would be an ideal candidate for anyone availing of the supposed scrappage deal to move to a new BEV.
Having to find €15 k (current €3.5k subsidy would already be included in the published new price) to move to a new EV which could be easily covered by HP or PCP.
Old car is taken as worthless under the scheme, as would be most diesels over 13 years old anyway. I presume the terms would require current tax and NCT, and ownership of more than a year or more.
It makes old bangers more valuable.

Do you seriously think most diesel cars over 13 years old are considered worthless? There are diesel cars in that age bracket worth anywhere from €5k to €35k
Not at all. It is the scrappage deal that considers them worthless.
Under previous schemes, 'scrapped' vehicles must be scrapped. There was trouble around dealers who thought the 'scrapped' vehicle was too good to scrap, so they sold them and paid the scrappage from proceeds of the sale. Some very disgruntled customers seeing their old car still driving around.
It is all a value decision by the owner as to whether to avail of the scrappage or sell privately or just continue to use it. Second hand cars have increased in value as new cars have become very expensive in recent times.
However, trade-in values offered by dealers do not match the current prices that older cars achieve on Done Deal.
Has anyone got any further information from dealers on pricing and timeline for delivery of demo models. We know that the entry model will be sub 20k (excluding delivery and paint options) and that it will be pretty basic in spec. Not much information on the pricing of the higher specs. But since they say it will be available for order from July, you'd expect dealers have final pricing now or shortly. I emailed a few last week, but we're sketchy on committing much. I see the first left hand drive models are rolling off the production line in Spain.
