Hi, I have 2 Limousin heifers just on the point of calving. They are just 2yrs old in.calf the Limousin bull. Will make good mid size cows.
I am selling them privately. I don't go to marts.
Any guideline prices for what I should be charging?

years ago I had similar stock I calved them down dehorned the calf waited for the head to heal then tagged him and sold the outfit. Heifer was light but I mealed her twice a day 3kg dairy nuts in the morning 3kg of beef nuts in the evening. She was in good shape but the calf was flying and good calf sold the outfit.
Often lads want them to calve themselves to bring up SCEP numbers
actually when I think back on it now I sent the outfit through the ring with the calf not registered for the older scheme but I don’t think a mart would let you away with that now.

unfortunately these type of ones are not a great seller. It’s the reason why the argument comes up as to what age to calve down heifers for the first time. To get the best price, lads looking for them calving at 700kgs which in reality is 30 months old or so.
Are they 4 star minimum and scep eligible?
You have two choices, just sell now and to be honest, I’d say you’d be lucky to get €2500 for them and they will be hard sold I’d say as there late calvers as well as anything else.
If you want to increase the price, then do as @limo_100 advised. But obviously there’s cost and risk that too.

were these maiden heifers or springers?
@Dunedin springers but not calving for another month to a LM bull or AI Angus.
I would be of the opinion they would probably have made more as maiden heifers.

When @SimmentalT described his as 2 years old and light, I was figuring around the 550 kg mark and the carnaross prices you put up would be about the run of them.
I used to sell springers at 2 years old at home. Often took 3 lads to come to the yard before they’d sell. I changed to 30 months calving, first to see would always buy. And the money was a lot easier got.
Was in ardee there with 2 high scc cows. There were a good few 2 year old cattle ptx and lim x weighing under 350kg. Would these be a good buy at under 1000 euro or has the ship sailed on them now. Averaged 1100 for 2 cows straight oit of parlour
At under 1k I be taking the arm at the shoulder of the lad selling them. They will work in a summer grazing system or holding and selling this time next year.
350kgs is 365/370 feild weight. 175kgs gets them to 540kgs or 270KO. I+ in November. For them.to gross 1500 you would need a net price of 5.55. 6/ kgat 250kgs gives you 1500 as well.
Carrying for 12 months, 330kgs KO at a price of 6.5 gives 2145.
what age and weight were the 2 cows ??
486 kg 2019 born 880 euro. Milking over 35 litres, had cut her 2 back spins earlier in year and scc was high.
592kg 2014 born €1370
Happy enough, had a lad offering me 500 out of yard for first one to feed calves. I sent a sample of second ones milk for scc to glanbia last week and it came back at 11 million
Both milked this morning and i was dumping over 60 litres a day between the 2 of them

I think you got a tough doing here the last week. I pmed you for advice a few months ago and you gave it. I don't always agree with you, but in fairness you always have an opinion and it keeps the crack going
To be honest I don't think you would get many young cattle under 4/kg around here. Those continentals 350kg at 1000, would want to be checked for defects. Unless the marts are back

Ha, it's 10 minutes down the road from me. There were red aax crosses in after the other ones, February 2025 198kg. I'd say there was alot of je or something in them
For 330kg KO what live weight would you expect

The problem with Ardee cattle is they would be most likely coming from the best of land. If they didnt put on weight on it you want something special in your land to get them to put on weight. .
If I am buying stores in Carnaross and see they are from Ardee or Dundalk I ll think long before bidding as I find they can be hard to get moving.

At 350kgs at 2yr old off v good land as Anto says I'd be suspicious. I wouldn't worry too much about jex in them as long as its not dominant. At 1k they be a steal.
Now some big dairy farmers treat them as pure after thoughts. A few pens of smashing friesan cattle came into the ring in kilkenny recently at but 26mnths weighing 380kg average i did a bit of research, turns out they all got a bad dose of pneumonia.
from my experience, the best beef farmers are dairy farmers m.
Have done some herd tests on big dairy farmers with a beef operation alongside and they would put the dedicated beef lads to shame
