just a brief visit, no?
Think they opened this week in the new location and Mountain Warehouse looks set to open this weekend... Lots of activity with regards openings and closings in the last month. Latest one I noticed was the closure of that Healing Earth place in Eyre Square shopping centre and a shoe shop which already has a parent/sister store elsewhere in the centre.
I see that Walsh's Pharmacy in the Corrib shopping centre has closed down, TBH it always looked very slack in there but it's been there years so one wouldn't expect it to closedown.
It wasn't always a Walsh's, they took over a previous Pharmacy in that location.
McLaughlins
This week was my first time in Roches / Corrib shopping centre in years. Granted it was a week day and before lunchtime, but it was pure dead. I remember in the late 90's early 2000's, it was a meeting spot for families. It used to be packed. I dont know how M&S makes any profit from that store.
Pickup point for on-line orders.
Are you aware that retail and shopping habits have changed massively in the last 30 years? Next you'll be saying the crowds at mass have reduced.
Does anyone know why Autopoint carwash closed down in Terryland Retail Park on Headford Road?
They always seemed to be flat out down there. Apparently, it closed just before last Christmas.
My hot take on it (nothing to do with the anchor tenant changes in 30 yrs)
"Cars were smaller back in those days, the bloated autos cannot fit anymore in the tiny/tight Corrib multistory!"
Isn't it great that less families consider a shopping centre the prime meeting location these days.
Corrib multi storey is reasonably spacious. Try bringing any type of family car into the Leonardo (Jury's) Carpark.
PJ Flaherty's closed during week, tellys and heaters etc being removed the last few days
It really is sad.
Wasn't their building for sale the last few months?
Yes, was pulled too. No idea what current situation is just that it's closed and rumour is it was finally bought but again I've no idea beyond being closed
I see the Columban Hall on Sea Rd is up for sale again. And that Bridie Murphys café has re-opened on Eyre St
Sostrene Grene Homewares opening g soon in city centre location, anyone know where?
March calling
It’s opening in Edward Square!
Looks like that cafe under new ownership: https://www.openingalway.com/2026/05/sip-and-bowl-eyre-street.html
Such a pity the bakery pulled out.
Ya, hopefully they might look for another spot somewhere in town.
Dozens of empty commercial properties in prime locations around, if they really want to come. It would drive footfall to the area, you'd think landlords would bite
Ground and Co have announced they'll be opening in Crown Square later this month, next week I think.
I knew I'd heard of Søstrene Grene somewhere before, low and behold I found this in the street view archive in Athlone.
They didn't reopen after lockdown and a Credit Union Bank have moved in since.
They have a nice shop on Bedford Row in Limerick in a prominent location.
They're an international business. This is the Irish franchisee opening a new store. Big crowd there for the opening this morning as I passed.
I'll be surprised if it lasts. Athlone store was in a prime location and couldn't survive.
Ya that town of 22,000 people is definitely comparable to Galway.
Limerick one seems to be doing just as well as any other store and that's despite "DA Town been DED cause of DA CounCiL and DA junkes"
