Xabi lost the Madrid dressing room and many a great manager lost that dressing room to player power. His record for his time there was pretty damn good.
So unless FSG can line up Enrique then Xabi would be a solid second choice for me.

You do know it is not up to us to decide, the other club has a say and the manager themselves as well. It is frankly a little arrogant to think we are the best job out there and we only have to choose who we want and it is not up to other clubs or even the people involved to have any say in it.
The same things we see with transfers, we are entitled to any player as we are that massive, yet the truth is not this.

It was reported back in February that Liverpool had sent some wind in his direction. And we have heard nothing since. Maybe he wasn't convinced by what he had been told then and has moved on.
Also there's a big issue, both Edwards and Hughes are out of contract next summer.
What manager in the right mind would walk into a club knowing that the lads selling them the project might not be even here in 12 months.

Chelsea is a plum job for anyone. It's a total basket case. Fat contract, high chance of a sacking with no reputational damage, and a huge payout. I wouldn't blame anyone for taking it.

There's no indication that we approached Alonso, there are no reports on that other than Bayern Space and Bild. Ornstein is saying again tonight that he's not on Liverpool's radar at all and that we're sticking with Slot.
Can't really blame him for considering the Chelsea job in those circumstances, but if we were interested it would be a different story.

I don't know exactly what your definition of "legs have gone" is but he certainly lost a yard or two of pace to the point where it is no longer a weapon for him against any but the slowest opponents really, and his touch and finishing abilities have certainly abandoned him. None of that is down to coaching.
Well, that's the exact opposite of what I want to see. Just like the team's playing style lately
He'd already lost a yard or two before this year… he's now lost enough yards that he's completely non-viable as a wide option. If he could find a bit of confidence I think there's still a proper player in there as a centre forward though, in the right team built around him. He'll do well up front in Italy or maybe Spain next year I think.

As ever, pinch of salt with all these reports (both the early ones saying he was def staying, then the more recent ones of the club losing confidence, and now orstein's update) until the season is over. Until the final ball is kicked on the season, we're not gonna hear anything worth listening too.
Well yeah that's my point. He had obviously more than gotten away with the previous lost pace as he has a Ballon D'or season last season but now that he has even more its not a weapon against anyone really.
But yeah I agree with everything you said. He would still do very well in the right position in the right team in the right league but for someone to use that as some sort of evidence that he could still do it with the right coaching in a team aspiring to win the premier league is tenuous at best and just flat out gaslighting at worst. I want Slot out just as much as the next guy but we don't need to be making up failures of his. He already has enough real ones to justify letting him go.
