It is made by BYD aka Build Your Dreams. Hope it comes here and that they change the name before it does,
This could really challenge the Tesla Model 3.
It looks great inside and out
I can highly recommend Galway , bought from North Dublin as they werent open then. Galway have done 2 services on it and sorted out issue witn navigation audio since, very nice to deal with and always a free loaner
Maybe ask someone on here from the west ?
ok I read this thread and I’m a bit more confident about BYD! We were looking at a 241/242 but they seem to be looking for 40k plus. I would have thought they would be cheaper given that they are near two years old and the price of a new one isn’t much more.
Crazy second hand pricing, just keep walking.
Seems quite high, private sale would be near 10k less.
But I haven't checked dealer pricing lately for them. May be stock related ?..
You’re obviously looking at main dealer pricing. 241’s can be got for very low 30’s now, even the 500bhp Excellence model.
Shop around. The one I posted in the bargain thread last week is now sold but more should pop up. Relatively speaking, not many deals were sold so there won’t be as many used examples as there would be ID4, model 3 etc
You ideally need to find a private sale. Assuming they got it serviced as per the recommended intervals, there will still be a heap of warranty left on even the earliest 2024 reg cars. Note battery and DT are 8yrs/250k and 6yrs/ 160k on other 'stuff'. These type of warranties will make dealership purchases less and less attractive as more suppliers offer similar cover which should ultimately force them to get more competitive with their pricing as they are not taking any risk on the resale.
Thanks. I’ve done a fair bit of research the last few days…Tesla is ruled out anyway they blatantly lied to my wife on the phone.
Only issue that regularly appears on forums about BYD is that parts availability can be poor at times.
Going to look at a Seal on Saturday and would open to a private sale if the figures stack up.
We've need no parts and we've over 60k on it now .
Beyond standard service. Which is same day few hours
For what it's worth I'm a BYD owner, Seal design 2024. I didn't buy in Galway as it wasn't in existence when I purchased. But, I've have had a very good experience with them since they opened. Got my 1st full service done there and have nothing but praise for them. Courtesy car free while the Seal was being serviced, lovely friendly people and everything explained to me in an easy understandable manner. Second service due in July/Aug and the perks I got when I bought the car are all included from Galway, no issue at all. Might help others
I should have specified that it was realisable simple lists of parts to repair collision damage that seem to be an issue.
Heard that in 2024. Not heard much since. But tbh I wouldn't be planning any car purchases around crash parts availability....
Colour me superstitious.
Fair enough. Was looking there and there isn’t a lot for sale private. If anyone is trading let me know!
Yes, happened to me on the second service.. tyre depth was near the end of it's life anyway and I knew they were due to be changed anyway (I had been monitoring them).. but they showed me pictures of the very inner few mm on all four.. down to the wire..
Had to get car tracking sorted and it was well off..
I also noticed an improvement in the smoothness of the cruise control afterwards as it could be quite "unsmooth" 😁
2025 here for €36K; https://www.usedcarsni.com/2025-BYD-Seal-230kW-Design-83kWh-4dr-Auto-394853324
Good price
UK examples are cheaper again: https://quotes.carwow.co.uk/deals/725abfb9eb339b25428e7bc6af89df17?_gl=17jlxe5_gcl_auMTUyMjgwNDUwMC4xNzc4MzIxMDI3FPAU*MTUyMjgwNDUwMC4xNzc4MzIxMDI3
North Mayo here so similar distance and bought from Galway and it's been a pleasure to deal with them.
On the excellence model you should get the granny charging cable, multi lead V2L plug and type 2 cable in boot. I was missing the V2L cable in the deep boot area (beside the tyre repair kit) and rang Galway and Niall the owner checked and had one sent out to me in post the next day.
Have had the car serviced at 20k, easy to book it in and offered loaner if needed for the few hours. They replaced the rear Continental tyres with Michelin's which I find are lasting longer a bit more.
On the service plan your entitled to all 4 being replaced by BYD in the 2 years, so they let me take the extra two Michelin tyres home and I could get my local tyres shop to fit them instead of driving to Galway. Next service at 40k is due soon but easy to deal with.
Only issue I have had is the handles on rear doors get stuck and need to use Silicone spray to loosen the plastics again. Have asked them to check it at next service if BYD have to replace under warranty.
Have heard Sligo, Donegal and Athlone could be getting BYD dealership also, if you search bydsligo.ie or byddonegal.ie on domain search https://www.eurodns.com/whois-search/ie-domain-name it looks like MDL have bought the domains already which is promising if they get a local dealer to take them on :)
We are starting to see the Chinese depreciation now with the seal. That’s a €47.5k car new, only a year old.
Edit. Price adjusted downwards. Reduced the haircut somewhat!
46 here. But also different price in UK.
You wouldn't see anything as low as that in the South, must be a catch, looks like a small outfit, maybe dodgy?
Assuming you’re talking about Jack Reid cars, it shouldn’t matter where you buy it as it’s still under manufacturers warranty anyway.
€49k here with Kearys but they may be chancing their arm. Although BYD Ireland advertised as €45k, you have to add on the €1950 MDL tax ;) so yes, €47,435 for the base model Design if you stick to one of the free colours.
Jack Reid is quite a decent outfit in NI. Keep an eye on their stock.
There has been Plenty of 2024 cars for low 30’s here.
Not sure that the notion that of "chinese depreciation" applies to Seal because of one stupidly cheap car in the North also is it guarnteed the warranty will transfer from there and if it is an english sourced car, as a lot of them are, there will be considerable duty to be paid on it
All new cars depreciate very heavily in the first 12-18 months. A BYD SEAL will be no different. €35K should easily bag the likes of this 2024 one; https://www.donedeal.ie/view/41804648
That's a year older car. Silly comparison to his point
AWD excellence model sold for less than €33k last week. Although a 24 model. Great to see these performance cars drop as they are more accessible now.
BYDBoys, don’t get offended, it’s great to see Tesla’s and GTX VW’s dropping too 👍
I don't think anyone's offended there was a comparison made to a year different vehicle and different model. You continued the comparison. It makes no sense.
Older vehicles with high mileage make lower money.
Vehicles in different markets make different money. Even more so one offs in random second hand dealerships.
I am presuming this Seal Excellence had very high milage again hence the stupidly low price theres always a good reason why somethings cheap
