Bear in mind though that 16Kwh batteries are heavy. Like 150Kg heavy.

Absolutely, possibly better that the likes of many of the badged offerings.
Many whole have built our own batteries are building these exact units.
Most report the capacity to exceed the 315A per cell stated capacity, so real capacity 17kWh or so

You would need to ask the seller that. But that seller offers two options I think. You can either buy and install yourself, or they can install.
So if they install, they have a responsibility for sure
I sold one recently enough for €650, replaced it with an imported GobelPower myself. Tbh, at that price I’d have been better off buying picking up two more second-hand Dyness 5kWh rather than replacing. I thought I’d get closer to €1k for it when I started the project about a year earlier. Lifting into the attic was a particular challenge, plus I had to reinforce the flooring up there.
That said, if you’re not in a position to install it yourself then you’d do fine with the Seplos example from Adverts.
Did you move it up there yourself with a hoist or something?

Not strictly, but if you want to see the state of charge etc across multiple batteries then it’s probably best.
More likely to see people selling Huawei batteries (and inverters) as they jump away from being locked in to Huawei
I'm in this boat (have a Huawei inverter) but haven't installed batteries yet as the numbers just don't add up. If anyone spots 2nd hand Huawei batteries going for a decent price, let me know.
Otherwise, I'll replace the Huawei inverter when the time comes
If you have no battery at all, then be aware that the first battery also needs the BMS module. Each BMS supports 3 batteries.
Won't be long before Huawei are removed from the approved nc6 inverter list. The EU are moving to ban countries providing great funding to projects using inverters from companies it deems a security risk - Huawei being one

Does anyone know what the maximum length a battery cable can be between it and the inverter? My inverter is in a place that would not fit a big battery, but there is room a few meters away.
No limit, but the longer the cable, the more voltage loss.
But the thicker the cable, the less the losses.
So run at least 25mm²

Nearly all the inverters used here are made in china, solis, sigenergy , deye& Sunsynk (same brand different software), Huawei, sungrow.
You don't even have to be on the nc6 list, just need the certs that it performs to the set standard.

Balcony power kits and some good battery prices as well. My Deligreens 32kw has faulted twice since install, 2 battery modules missing, back up from them is whatsapp only, thankfully I don't mind taking the panels off & checking connections. Looks like it's a dodgy BMS module connection, has reset each time, but something to bear in mind if purchasing from them.
I had 16 panels and an AlphaESS SMILE G3-S5-Inverter (hybrid) installed 2 years ago. No batteries purchased as I had told the supplier I planned to review battery prices/brands in a couple of years.
I've gone to purchase 16KW of PV battery and am being told that this inverter uses proprietary technology and is only compatible with AlphaESS batteries. Is this correct? Alpha ESS batterries seem extortionate in price, limiting their financial viability.
What would it be about the inverter that makes it only suitable to use proprietary batteries.?
You need to check the specs of the Alpha battery for the voltage.
A quick Google seems to indicate that it could be a standard 48v type, or could be proprietary high voltage.
It could be that it is proprietary from the BMS point of view, meaning that you couldn't DATA link another to the inverter. If that is the case, then you need to be able to configure the battery by voltage setting on the inverter. You would be goosed if you cannot manually set it this way
Thanks for the response - I'll read into this, however it occurs to me that - I would still be taking a risk purchasing a non AlphaESS battery and 'hoping it would work out - initially and also long term without tweaking (I don't have the bandwidth and/or long term interest) I will look into getting the AlphaESS Smile G3 inverter replaced with one which has greater compatibility. Any suggestions on a replacement inverter which would work with many of the common batteries? I'm loath to write off the existing inverter, however I think it may be nearly cost neutral in getting to 16Kw of battery capacity,
