Hi all
Looking at a 2025 ranger but having trouble finding an insurer to insure it privately.
Is there anyone that does?
Thanks
Ask a Broker?
They are useless vehicles….. stuff will get wet, or can be robbed from the back of it.
Do you have a problem with people parking Toyota Camry, BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, Merc E-Class etc in public? Because they take up just as much space as a Ford Ranger
don’t be picking on superman.
Try insuryvan.ie, Gallaghers first Ireland may be worth a shot too.
So I guess vans shouldn't park next to you either then?
Road tax for the Ranger (as a private vehicle) would be on the old CC (Engine capacity) rate?
So compact vans should be banned too?
I can see why Boards is dying with the help which has been given to the op. FBD may be worth a shout. I have a similar vehicle insured private with them .
Kennco / Axa, thats who I have my Opel Combo insured through. (Private tax rate at 1300cc)
Commercial insurance will also cover social and leisure use so any commercial policy will do the trick. I am not aware of any company who does a private policy for commercials.
I have driven a crew cab for nearly 20 years now privately, and while the extra road tax based on cc is a bummer it is well worth it if that is the vehicle you need or want.
Up up and away, so you drive without insurance too then? Well done you… at the risk of feeding a Troll.
Road tax is 0 in ireland.
I have private van insurance on my 2019 LDV, it's via a broker.
I pay the private motor tax of €120 which was cheaper than the commercial rate of €333.
Your problem here maybe is that the Ranger and most pickup trucks are classed as commercial vehicles and trying to insure it on a private policy just results in most insurance company's computer saying no.
What basis is the motor tax for the LDV? Is that the camper van rate?
EV van, it's an ex an post van I got super cheap at auction last year
When I had these, or any other commercial/N1 vehicle, I had to insure them as commercial through Insuremyvan.
You will be covered for social and domestic use too.
Sometimes they ask the reason for the “van” as you have to give them a valid reason for the van then.
Motor tax at €333 rate was great at the time.
The only problem with commercial tax is if you are carrying passengers who are not your work "crew".
Found out finally that I can get commercial insurance that is just social domestic and personal use. My worry was that if I moved my personal policy over and decided in a few years I wanted to go back to a car that the no claims would be lost as I had a commercial policy but found out that is not the case.Still have to tax it privately and cvrt it , but insurance is commercial, albeit with social personal use assigned and don't need to be in a trade. Thanks to all that actually helped out.
As a matter of interest; what are the vehicle specs and how much is the insurance coming to? I've considered this many many years ago but gave up eventually due to being unable getting insurance.
