I don't think any of those tests are even relevant to the real world anyway, or should sway your buying decision.

If anything it shows the Model Y is faster in the real world. The iX only starts to catch up at around 160 km/h
Be an asset on the sprint to Lidl for the weekly value shop at least.
I do like that Bjorn's tests are far more practically minded in that sense. Testing things that EV owners deal with every day on real roads.
I want to know what happens at 0%, how accurate the range estimates are, how quickly you can cover distances longer than the range of the car, the affordability compared to diesels etc.
what was being compared is the AWD Juniper v the Top range pre M version of the IX3 so about as like for like as you can get, so here its 55k with no options v ~ 76k with no options.
i dont think any of the tests will stand up to any great scrutiny, but my takeaways personally from it (as someone who had 2 fat etrons, multiple BMWs in the past and currently a Juniper and who would potentially be interest in an IX3 in this guise next) is that
a) the q6 etron holds no appeal for me
b) the ix3 looks very ordinary (to me) in that dark colour and non m sport trim, i do like it in the lighter colours with the m sport trim and 22" wheels
c) they agreed the tesla is a better drive and is more practical and funnily enough preferred the interior as well!
d) the ix3 is no more efficient but the battery will make it a range monster, now as to who actually needs that range is another matter but still nice to have and may bring more people over to EVs
e) Telsa did a bloody good job with the juniper refresh if it can hang in this company
Bjorn nerds out on the range and efficiency and im glad someone is doing it, but as to whether ev owners think about cost versus diesel i doubt it, would you ever go back? maybe relevant to someone on the fence?
Well certainly yes, those cost vs diesel tests are something us existing owners can point potential switchers towards.
But I am also still very curious about the progress of EVs even as someone who would absolutely never go back unless forced to. Especially as someone who doesn't have a home charger, the progress of the cost to publicly charge situation is really important to me.
I don't even think I'm particularly in the market for an iX3 (I'm hoping for an LCI Countryman next year) but I love seeing the tech progress!

Agreed on the Q6. I went to look at it when it came out and I was left unimpressed. Decided to keep my current car another year and wait for the iX3.
Tesla and the Germans seem to be nearing the efficiency ceiling. Body shape, wheel and tyre sizes etc are the only difference between them now. The chinese EV's are a good way behind on efficiency though. BYD would be better off focusing on efficiency rather than MW chargers.
It's amazing to see that Tesla now has class leading interior quality. It is about 6 years since I last sat in a Tesla (model 3) and I was not impressed with the interior quality at all. The germans have dropped their interior quality though.
The range on the new iX3 will make public charging a rarity. I think I will stop the bmw and ionity charging subscriptions when I move to the new car. The amount of public charging required will not cover the subscription costs.
I’m not sure many are cross shopping the Jupiter LR with the iX3 - if they were they’d just pick the Tesla and save €20k. I would doubt how many of the LRs are sold here but I very rarely seem them. It’s almost all SR.
The iX3 covers off a legitimate BEV option for the myriad of bmw owners coming out of the tonne of PHEVs they sold here over the last 3-5 years. And perhaps a cheaper way to get the €100k i5 owners out of their cars without being in too much residual debt.
I.e it’s a very flexible option in the middle of the bmw range.

Yep, agree. Nobody cross shopping the iX3 and Juniper is going to pick the BMW if they were honest with themselves at all.
Think the iX3 is aimed at folks getting out of X5s and into something more modern, nicer to drive, but - really imoprtantly - still impresses the neighbours.
Unless an iX5 comes alone. The iX3 will demoted then to the little sister like the current X3 is.
The iX5 will be unveiled later this year along with a new X5.

Considering it's relative age and price, the X5 still does great business for them here.

Cue the ‘oh anyone can just put a 147kWh battery in their car and get same results’ comments! But fitting that much battery in a car, and keeping power to weight ratio working and internal space etc is almost magical physics. They are pretty nice front and rear power figures also.
184kw is quite low so what will be such an expensive car. Possibly better performance versions released afterwards?

seems like it willl be all the 6s for the ix5x60. 600bhp, 6000lbs, 600miles wltp. Presumably x40 and x50 will follow with more sensible specs. Maybe x50 with 500bhp, 5000lbs, 500 mile wltp.
