Hope they sort car charging next.
As long as that wouldn't mean cables trailing across footpaths on the ground.
Well that's what I mean by sort it out. Proper kerbside charging points either provided, or permissions given to install. (Anyway - we're deviating from from the topic, unless we cross reference kerbside electric bicycle charging :))
Given the authorities seem to think ebikes and their batteries are going to burn down the entire State, probably makes sense.
Looking at this Newstalk article, it doesn't exactly help the general image when you have one guy going the wrong way on the cycle path at Fairview and the other cycling on the road outside the cycle lane on Nassau street! 😕

Ha, so it's practically word for word from the Cycling Ireland report but yet they manage to portray the hidden agenda with the embedded pics. Been a good few years since I've been out past Fairview but the state/surface of that cycle lane in the pic should be avoided by all cyclists. Why couldn't they have shown pics of parked cars in cycle lanes or private cars hogging bus/cycle lanes to be more inline with the text.
Must be some sort of record for a Journal article mentioning bikes that the comments didn't once mention going through red lights (I know - we're talking about bike locked up in a shed going nowhere but it is the Journal after all)
Is that image from Fairview not of the old cycle path?
You're right, this image came up in articles before the updates to that route were done…
never mistake for malice, that which can be more easily explained by incompetence.
you can be guaranteed that whoever put that article online spent no more than a few seconds looking for images, probably using something like 'cyclist dublin' or 'cyclist dublin fairview'.
i assume they wouldn't have searched for images of cars parked in bike lanes, because that's not actually referred to in the article.
Ah, Australia. When is a bike lane not a bike lane?
'we have thoughtfully provided infrastructure for you to use, only when car drivers deem it OK'.
Article about bike theft...

a titbit therein -
Marie Sherlock TD has had three bikes stolen in last 15 months. Her most recent bike was taken outside Vicar Street venue, it was locked using an expensive lock in a well-lit area, but the thief cut through it using tools.
a TD! Three bikes gone! That is pretty shocking. If three cars were stolen, it would make news
Bike theft and a lack of secure parking is a hindrance to active travel. A recent personal example is that I'm due to attend a gig in the 3Arena and we were going to cycle as it permits a quick and easy exit through traffic and the Luas queues. Searched the 3Arena website and on their getting there section they state:
"Cycling. We're big fans of cycling at 3Arena and with the introduction of new cycle routes around the city as well as many Dublin bike stations, its a great way to travel to your next show."
Zero information as to where to store/lock your bike so contacted the 3Arena to be advised that there is bike parking around the point square but they don't have a specific 3Arena bike area. In conclusion they're not big fans of cycling. There's a large underground car park so if there was a bike area within and likely to be covered by CCTV we would have cycled but not risking our bikes being stolen on street.
I never cycle to shops/pubs/restaurants anymore, too much hassle carrying multiple locks with the risk of everything being damaged/stolen upon your return.
If anyone would ever like to cycle in Cork or indeed use a tram, please make a submission on this.

There are cycle paths and bike parking included. Proposals like this always draw the Nimbies of course so any support welcome. It could always include more but we really just need it to be approved and built as soon as possible!
The trick is to have a bike that's so crap that you wish somebody would steal it.
The trick is to have a bike that " looks " crap & a decent lock
Often parked at three arena on the river along with surprisingly large amounts of bikes.
Appreciate this doesn't work for everyone.
That's the way alright. I have this beauty, a 14yr old hybrid. leave it all over town, including the Point, never touched. Keep the gears and brakes serviced on it and new parts when needed. I would never leave any bike remotely expensive out of sight in town.
If I come back some day and this is gone, I'll be a bit pissed off but in reality I'd move on quick enough. Everyone needs a pub bike.
I'd rob that.
my pub bike is blushing with that compliment
Basically the same except i think mine is only 12 years old!
That saddle if worth robbing. Not sure if your local bike thief knows about Brooks
When I started spending 90mins a day in the saddle commuting, I figured it was worth the risk! (I got it for €80, that and two new continental tyres were worth more than the rest of the bike together)
We missed a huge opportunity in Dublin by not including a parallel cycle lane with the Luas, especially on the Green line (as it already had the more direct railway route)

Has anyone seen the garda e-bikes? Are they snazzy-looking? Who supplies them?
the question wasn't answered.
the answer states how many have been 'allocated'. the question was how many are being used.
