RE Neil Sedaka. There definitely was a bit of an attempt to relative him arrive 89-91 somewhere strong there. I think there was a greatest hits album and I remember that being advertised. I was a teenager at the time so to me it looked like some silly looking old guy and the bits I heard sounded horrendous. However, RTE showed a filmed cover from him around that time as well. It was back in the days when you either watched what was in or nothing at all and it was late night so I was happy enough to stay up. I ended up converted as he came across as a really nice guy and I suddenly realised that he’d written an awful lot more stuff I knew than I realised. A real eye opener. To this day I equate him with Carole King. Incredibly talented and wrote much more songs you know than you think.

RIP to another legend of Irish music
Glad Moya got to perform on an irish stage one last time back in February at the Hot Press gig in the 3Arena
A grand old sing song up in the heavens 😔
Absoluteky shocked to see this today. She did a gig with a music society I was involved in when I was in college in the 90s. I was a big Clannad fan at the time and was excited to meet her. I expected a bit of the aloof star musician from her but was shocked at how down to earth and friendly she was. She spent ages talking to me about things like Robin Of Sherwood which I also loved. I honestly think I must have come across as an overly enthusiastic fan and probably pain in the ass at the time but you’d never have thought it from how sweet and personable she was. Actually she was very enthusiastic about most of what we were chatting about too so it felt like there were a pair of us in it. Then as it was a vocal group we all had opinions of ourselves as singers to some degree but I’ll never forget standing beside her hearing her sing and that put you in your place very quickly. I remember her being very professional and generous with her time and especially that beautiful voice. RIP Moya.
Very sad. Posted a few thoughts on the TV thread and Favourite Tune thread. How wonderful she was and what wonderful music Clannd created and opened the door for Enya. Just incredible. I would say they have given Ireland and the World some incredible gifts.
I was in the Donegal Gaeltacht back in the 70s (3 weeks of summer school), and at the end of the 3 weeks,we had a school concert and a céili.
Clannad were the band at the céili - they were unknown to us at the time.
So sad to hear of Moya's death. I grew up listening to Clannad, remember seeing them first at the Pan Celtic Festival in Killarney when I was a child. Moya was at the core of the group and leaves an amazing musical legacy. Suaimhneas síoraí di.
RIP Moya/Maire Brennan. What a wonderful voice she had and what a legacy she left behind.
2 interesting articles from the Guardian on Moya and Clannad. She will be missed.

St Peter is going to be hearing a lot more Buntu Boys from now on. RIP Andy
Sad to hear, in the 80s he blew the cobwebs off BBC Radio 1 which was then still overwhelmingly populated by the dinosaurs of the late 60s.
Very sad that Moya Brennan has died. Always loved her duet with Bono "In a lifetime". Not a pairing i could ever imagine working but it does. Her voice was angelic. She has left a wonderful musical legacy. May she rest in peace.
I've PTSD from the Bhundu Boys. Shared a room with my older brother who'd play it non stop coming in from the pub when I had school the next morning!
RIP Moya Brennan. Up with Paidraig now playing a session. Was lucky enough to be guests at Liverpool philharmonic hall and the after show party in the London carriage works hotel, with clannad and Sephira. Sad times
Both of Moya's uncles in Clannad passed away: Paidraig and Noel.
Yep. Paidraig was a friend of mine.
Alan Osmond, eldest member of the group,
has died aged 76.
i'd never realised the osmonds had tackled the thorny subject of the troubles…
In the '70s there were lots of bombs They blew my home town up And lots of people were killed On the news the relatives cried Everyone knew someone who'd died They'll never forget it for the rest of their lives And all around the people say "We hate the IRA And we asked for justice but it never came"
Dennis Locorriere the frontman and founder of Dr Hook has passed away.
80's rapper Rob Base has died aged 59. Along with DJ E-Z Rock who died in 2014 they had a massive hit in 1988 with It Takes Two.
