Buying at ballyfermot - decies road

I am looking to buy a property in Dublin and I found a property at decies road near the markievicz park. How rough is it? I don’t know as I am a foreigner and not familiar with the area.

I am currently near lime street so I do see some antisocial behaviour from the pearse building.

I’ve seen plenty of old posts talking about the ballyfermot area as a no-go but I am not sure if that’s changing due to prohibitive prices/gentrification.

It's a rough enough area but not sure if I'd go as far as saying it's a no go area. There are some decent folk living out that way so hopefully they may give more information. OP just to note I've been out to the Tesco in Ballyfermot and it does remind me a bit of a scene from the Walking Dead. The village itself looks awful as well. It would be great if they could regenerate it

Where are you from originally ?

I had a house on Ballyfermont Parade that I rented out. Any tenant not originally from Ballyfermont didn’t last long. It can be a mad place

I am from Barcelona originally. I am getting mixed reviews from people all the time, mentioning that lower ballyfermot is either a great calmed place or a no-go zone.

I would assume that the people who are saying it’s a great calm place are native to the area….

Yeah, lived there for about 10 years back in the 80s/90s and still have family there.

One of them is a girlfriend’s friend who’s living 2 min away from decies road. And she’s pretty happy in there.

I've a cousin that lives around there. It's the nicer part of Ballyer, but it's still dog rough, and there's a bad vibe ALWAYS. People look at you with scrutiny and mistrust, there's loads of antisocial behaviour, open drug dealing. My cousin has been harassed for a long time now by the local kids, although that's since stopped when an influential neighbour stepped in on his behalf. No part of Ballyfermot will EVER be gentrified, and criminality and bad behaviour is embedded into the place always and forever. If you can buy somewhere else, like Drimnagh or Crumlin, then do it.

It's a tricky one, a big decision. Maybe try & check the road late at night to get a sense of it.

You kind of need to be lucky with your immediate neighbours as well.

Check to see if there are groups of kids hanging out after dark- they are only looking for trouble.

Not trying to put you off but put in a bit of effect yourself to check it out & best of luck.
