New thread as the last thread seems to be broken.
From what I have seen it's their size not height that people "obsess" over.
Isn't Alex Scott eligible too? Very unlikely we'd get him though
He is. I think Ireland will have to look into granny rule bit more again. If for nothing else but improve squad depth.
I think you're very much correct in saying this one is really unlikely.
Scott is in the Dewsbury-Hall category imo. Hasn't quite made the breakthrough with England yet - but is knocking on the door and the call-up can't be far away.
Don't get me excited.
If he declared for Ireland when he first emerged, he'd be on over 30 caps now.
I think he knows he's good enough for England though.
Idah scored off the bench today for Swansea v Sheffield United his first appearance for Swansea since coming back from hamstring injury. He also assisted the 3rd goal for Swansea in a 3-3 draw. Great to see him back.
Tom Cannon scored for Sheffield United in the same game.
Is there any chance that Ferguson can resolve his injury problems?..find a top surgeon, take 6 months off?. I was thinking that if we had him in Prague to function just in a holding the ball role similar to how Mark Hughes did it at Man Utd it would have been another outlet and respite for an overworked defence.
Isn't that what's finally happening, didn't he have surgery on the ankle injury that goes back to the Fabinho tackle over 3 years ago
I didnt know that. I hope it's a success.
An article in the athletic about the injury from Andy Naylor who covers Brighton doesn’t make any mention of Fabinho’s tackle as the origin of the injury.
Moran getting a goal and assist last 2 games. Hopefully he kicks on now. Only 22
Was tom cannon injured in the last international window? just saw his goal yesterday, he is a great finisher unlike johnny kenny, hopefully we see him get more games with Ireland.
Don’t know. He never seems to be available to play for Ireland when the international windows come around.
No he wasn't
Has he played in a proper match for us yet or just friendlies?
He's played in the Nations League
To be fully “cap-tied” to Ireland, he needs to play “three matches at ‘A’ international level… in an official or non-official competition,” according to the current Fifa rules. That means if Cannon makes his debut against Hungary and is capped against Portugal on June 11th, his Irishness will be definitive after facing England in the Nations League tie on September 7th.
Just read this, I thought all it took to be tied to a Country was 1 non friendly game.
I think he has only played twice for us yet.
where are you seeing that? It doesn’t sound correct - to be fully tied over 21 you just need one competitive appearance. If you’re under 21, you can back out if you’ve played three or less games - but only by not playing for anyone for 3 years.
His competitive appearance against Finland when he was 21 tied him to us.
Am I the only one who finds it embarrassing that we’re having to beg English lads to play for us once they realise they aren’t going to play for England?
https://www.swanseacity.com/news/zan-vipotnik-20-goals
Idah is competing for the striker role at Swansea against Vipotnik who is the leading goal scorer in the championship with 20 goals
Not sure that’s the case with Cannon. I think he’s surplus to requirements. We’re ok for strikers with Parrott and Idah and especially if Ferguson can get fit.
We are desperate for midfielders though. We had no obvious replacement for Cullen but we can’t rely on English born players like in the past. Any one we get now won’t be much better than what we already have available to us.
yeah I know. I think I read somewhere that they are expecting to sell Vipotnik this summer and that Idah was signed to take over as his replacement next season. Every team needs a couple of strikers at least for rotation anyway.
Nice to see Ryan Manning getting a lot of plaudits for his performance against Arsenal. It cannot have been a great week for him after the Ireland matches but he stood up to the test.
I criticise Idah quite a lot, and dont think he near good enough to be in Iriah squad. He has talent, but I think he is lazy on the pitch and we cannot afford to have players who don't do the hard work.
Lucky we have an in-form Parrot and potentially top forward in Ferguson. Unfortunately there is a big drop off in quality strikers available to us after that
Have seen this type of criticism of Idah and I disagree with it. I think he’s been a useful player for us, he’s usually fit and available and has scored and contributed coming off the bench. He’s a good squad player and maybe as he matures further can knuckle down and become more than that.
Most importantly the manager sees him as an important player in his squad, a player he can turn to when needed and required.
He's been good in the box. He's a genuinely really solid poacher, with a great sense of where to be when the ball's in the mixer. But he's been largely awful outside the box, hides from the game, doesn't sprint and close down enough, and gets outmuscled constantly - especially disappointing given his size.
He has his place though, and should really be a mainstay in the squad for if we're chasing a game and getting decent final 3rd possession.

Unless he has an Azerbijaney granny or similar I don't think there's a mad rush to tie players like Tom Cannon down
Given his size it's crazy how easily he gets out muscled.
He is a lot better than Johnny Kenny and id have him on before Idah as well.
