what size tanker are lads getting on less grant. Have a 115hp tractor next one will probably be stronger. Have some hilly ground. I am thinking 1800gal hi spec. With the 7.5m shoe. Currently have a 1350 but it’s not recessed. Hi spec seem to be the best tanker
The tanker is just a steel barrell, not much differ in them in my opinion, pay more attention to the macerator and brand of pump I would think.
I have a belmac tank 15 years and can't fault it and they are reputed to be the worst tank of the bunch.
iv being told tha the major galvanised ones are a slightly lighter grade of steel. what brand of trailing shoe is best?
Tanks with recessed wheels are easier to pull. Neighbour had a 1600 abbey on russians and bought a 2300 hispec . You wouldnt notice it behind you.
Ive never pulled a trailing shoe just a dribble bar on that 2300 hallon tank.
Dribble bar is so counter intuitive.
Splash plate 100hp would pull the tank at a slow rate , ticking over.
The dribble bar you are travelling a lot faster with the tractor still ticking over and running a macerator.
Its very easy to turn uphill and the tractor just bogs down and starts to die.
If you have hills you will need a lot more power.
But i wouldnt go for a 1800 gallon tank.
2000minimun.
Twill be too small in a few years and worth nothing
Yea local big farmer small contractor, after trading in one almost new mastek tank for another mastek tank. Only difference wider dribble bar as hills and too fast were bogging her down.
picked up a new Rauch 18.2 Fert spreader a lot different than my vicon will see how I get on 1.3t capacity. brought it home and straight into the shed to be parked for a few weeks. anyone on here have one? what spread width is manageable? can go to 18 but without a gps be impossible to manage that. thinking 10-12m
Well wear! It should speed up the job compared to the vicon. Would you not consider one of the basic gps systems, to make the most of the spreader? Even 10-12 metres can be difficult in some conditions
be worthwhile looking into this. I spread 100t a year with the same system
Are there still updates available for these?
got ours updated a few years ago when the satellite they were using was turned off. No issues with it since. Got the bigger antenna for it this year
Well wear, Rauch/Kuhn are by a big margin the best spreader out there if you ask me. The quality of steel they use in them is unbelievable compared to the rest. I’ve a 2.7ton Kuhn that’s probably 20 plus years old now and there’s not even a bit of paint coming off it yet, never mind any rust.
I’d recommend a cheap gps too, it’s great comfort knowing you’re bang on and I’ve often spread in the dark too with no issues using the gps.
I was thinking about that it would get the best of the spreader. Was going to leave it until next year as prices seem to be 1500-2000. But I will call that lady tomorrow I assume it’s second hand. Cheers for that.
cheers. Mine is only a toy compared to yours. But I went for it because of the single hopper on hilly ground. Also ground round here can be heavy especially this year so wider spread width means less travelling the ground. What width do you spread with that spreader? I could prob go up to 15-16m if I had the accuracy of the gps. Do you calibrate it much?
I’m on 24 metres and find it a great job for the same reason as yourself, ground can be heavy and some spots I’d be spreading are boggy too so the less travelling the better. It’s also is a seriously quick way of covering the ground compared to lads driving 6 or 8 metres wide with a wagtail. Go into a 10 or 12 acre field and do one round and go up and down 3 or 4 times and you’re finished and out the gate! I wouldn’t dream of spreading that width without the gps though.
I haven’t done a tray test or anything like that to check calibration but I’ve never seen any visible discrepancies in the grass after it. I use the Kuhn app to get the settings but usually when I’d be finished spreading a few bags/ton i’d calculate the exact acres I’ve covered, work out the exact rate and compare it to what I got from the app and save that in the notes on my phone along with what fertiliser brand and type Onwas using. I find it handy to have that information to hand and I rarely need to use the app now as I’ve it all on the phone. It’s something I’d recommend everyone to get into the habit of doing regardless of what make of spreader you use.
There’s a couple of different contractors I’d use for sowing grass seed and I’ve started saving the settings for their machines into my phone too. Again it’s handy to have it if maybe a lad turned up to do the job for the contractor and he’s not used to the machine or the settings.
Either that or gyspy GPS is great. I use it here for fert and spraying. Lads are based in cork
Where did you get the bigger antenna? Was it dear?
Gyypsy is very good and sound back up also.
there's ranges from 1100 to 1650. which model do you have? no subscription with there one either.
I have a bit of ground that's abused ( still being abused with this weather) hoping the bale I put out today will be my last. When it dries I am going to harrow it and shake some seed I assume this spreader can do that for me and then harrow it in
Trimble EZ GUIDE 250
off this guy. He’s getting spurious ones made up. Think it was 300€
He also has a 2nd hand ez guide @limo_100
I will give him a ring today. Do you have to pay a subscription?
no subscription
I've the 1650 one. Uses Bluetooth. Very handy as its just a tablet that can be removed at anytime.…say over the winter or if your at slurry.
Reciever works from inside the cab too so no need to route cables to ghe outside or top of cab
I rang and it was sold its an old one 2017.
That would suit be better as I have a low shed that needs to be cleaned out and the Ariel on the roof would be a an issue. Do you have to charge that or is hooked to a power supply?
The gypsy system uses a standard Lenovo tablet and the ariel is only 1" high magnetic so can be put on roof. And you would be supporting a fellow Irish man and a gentleman to boot.
does the aerial placement have anything to do with the accuracy? If I put it to the the left or right does it throw the placement. Is the magnet strong enough to leave on while doing road work?
It probably won’t be this year but I’d be leaning towards them.
Go for the middle of the road gypsy. Be grand. They usually have a special price at trade shows.
What the cheapest people have managed to buy a Gypsy for ?
