Basically there are 2 spots reserved for the hosts.
They will go into the group draw like usual.
Once two qualify the other two will qualify automatically.
So let's say England and Scotland qualify automatically that means Wales and Ireland will fill the 2 host spots.
England should qualify automatically so once one of Ireland, Wales and Scotland qualify we will be at Euro 2028

because they like working with him. He had a 50% win record which is fairly high especially since we haven’t played any minnow apart from arguably Armenia. Nothing changed after last night in terms of how he should be perceived. We drew away to a team higher in the rankings by 20 places. The players i expected to score their penalties scored. The players i wasn’t sure about missed. There was no obvious meltdown or fcuk up by the manager.
And to top it off if we had qualified and then tried to renew him i imagine his wage demands would have gone up so I think FAI done well to secure him. It’s a good partnership and it’s yielding better results than expected.
How people look forward to changing international manager is beyond me given the tedious media feeding frenzy it always is.

Agreed, it would be mad altogether to change management. Finally have a settled side in an upward trajectory. And a manager who is a clear leader and knows how to communicate with the players and the media . With a sensible style of play suited to the players available.
Ok HH might not be a top tier manager. But at least he is competent in his job compared to what went just prior to him.
I know it'll ease in the next day or two but this really hurts. I woke up at around 6am and couldn't get back to sleep. Couldn't stop thinking about the game
It really hurts this time because of the nature of our comeback against Hungary and the fact that the whole country has gotten behind them the last few weeks when last year it seemed hopeless.
Was in Dublin City centre last night and the place was just buzzing, I’d never seen anything like it before when Ireland were playing. We all needed a lift like this. It’s also the first time in a while that all the players have shown heart in games and really backed the manager. Ireland is primarily a football country, it’s the sport that everyone of all class backgrounds and regional backgrounds plays, we should expect to have a national team competing at the highest level.

I can't remember us scoring 7 goals in 3 games for a long time. Even when strong before we wouldn't do that against the likes of Luxembourg, Georgia,Moldova etc
To bring that against Portugal,Hungary, Czechs is a quantum leap in that regard.
We had 2 other chances that had they gone in would be up there with some of our finest in living memory.
Yes last night was disappointing in the back of the 3 games but I'd be very optimistic if we can channel this into Euro 28.

Absolutely. Lads wanting to change the manager just because we lost a game on penalties to an opponent of similar ability. Remember he was a genius after beating Portugal and Hungary. Had we lost those different narrative altogether.
Whoever is the manager can only work with the players he has and HH is doing as well as anyone would

We should've done much better with that group of players from 2002 to 2010. We had top level PL players back then all through the side.
Even the late 90s we should've done better.
Maybe a better manager than Mick and Brian Kerry.

He missed against Slovakia too and isnt a regular penalty taker yet he takes the vital kick, madness.
there was no one else, there was 2 takers in our squad in Parrott and Idah. Brady is an excellent ball striker so he’s in. After that it was the likes of manning and Szmodics who aren’t really penalty takers and both weren’t on the pitch to take one anyway.

Absolutely. When you look at other other options available, basically you have a bunch of centrebacks, the goalkeeper, and debutant Harvey Vale - who himself has a poor record with pens. We simply didn't have 5 comfortable penalty takers. It is what it is.
I think the 'not practicing them' thing is a bit of a non-event too… it's perhaps relevant if we're talking about club ball where maybe there's a componant of practicing them week in week out for a few months to raise the overall level - but practicing a few pens over the couple of international training days isn't going to achieve anything, and may actually just get into fellas heads. I've absolutely no doubt that whoever wanted to practice a few pens at training, was able to.
agree, all players should practice 5 a week (1 a day) and keep records of their conversion rate.
But practicing in abbottstown on the week of the game is pointless and practicing in Prague would be spied on.
I thought Kelleher would take one himself. Often outside of established takers the keeper can be a great option if he is good with his feet. The keeper has probably studied penalties more than anyone on the pitch.
I'd have been more comfortable with him over many others there. Was also a decent striker underage. Played Kennedy Cup as a striker and a keeper.
