New thread as the last thread seems to be broken.
Yep as far as I remember.
So f*cking what??
Are you that miserable that people can't dare to get a little excited?
The only time we won was 90 , we lost in 2002, lost against Slovakia and now this.
Browne missed against Slovakia also .
Tony trying to catch out Heimir, regarding penalties , what a prick.
PS glad Smodicks is ok, importantly
Should be a great atmosphere at that!!!
Probably worse than that because it terms of playoffs for a world cup it's unlikely we'll get that favourable a draw again.
Gutted. We started really brightly and I think has we managed to calm it down at 2-0 and let the pressure build on them they would have capitulated. That brainless foul will haunt Manning for a while I’m sure.
The Czechs went for a more physical game in the second half which we didn’t really adapt well to - I think the referee was shocking in this regard, let far too much of their shenanigans go.
And were we thinking of extra time too early perhaps? We saved a lot of subs for extra time even though we had the lead with 5 minutes to go, would have loved to see more fresh legs on sooner, might have made the difference.
Overall though I’m really positive about the next campaign. We have some very good players and I think the manager suits us well. Onwards and upwards!
I’m aware of that, thanks. Was replying a clear wum in kind
Two atrocious penalties - no excuses.
Different result if Manning didn’t have his brain fart. Players had plenty of chances to break when they were camped at the edge of our box but they panicked.
Parrot and Ogbene looked knackered from about 50mins.
Agreed.
RTE, alone, had:
Dara Maloney, Shay Given, Didi Hamann, Des Cahill, Paul O'Flynn, Samantha Libreri, Kieran Cuddihy, Des Curran, Ronnie Whelan, Tony O'Donoghue
Both teams scored from a cheap penalty and a lucky corner. They were about as even as 2 teams can get. It's a pity but no shock
A match had to be played and it was easier for UEFA to have the losers all play each other since other teams would all have games organised.
The same happened the last time we lost a playoff but we didn't end up playing Serbia because of COVID and played England instead.
Will never understand in this era of VAR how a player can pull a player's jersey in the penalty area and think he'll get away with it
Not sure if they were the better team, they created nothing.
They got a daft penalty and a setpiece header.
They created nothing all night apart from that.
Ireland were unlucky, hit the crossbar, the upright and their keeper made a great save.
I hope Denmark hammer the Czechs, they played horrific football, Wimbledon FC of the 80's would have been easier on the eye.
I know it’s easy to be down after that but I think the current manager has them playing well enough. the players just have to become more comfortable and more confident in possession.
Onwards and upwards
Gutting to lose out tonight, the penalty to get them back in the game at 0-2 cost us the game.
Definitely signs the team is finally moving in the right direction, it was a high pressure game, obviously not everything was great but we had the chances to win.
Attitude of some in here is pretty weird, probably more used to playing FIFA and don't understand football, especially in a game like this isn't easy
Czechia must be the least technical European team I've seen in a long time
If we played a bit more football we'd have been more comfortable
It's not a lotto when you choose Browne to take a penalty.
No, we have a champion-of-champions tie against Suriname or Bosnia on Tuesday. Winner goes straight to the final in LA
Agreed, we’ve come a long way.
They were not the better team, not sure what people were watching
UEFA fulfilling TV rights.
I am still astonished that the foul on Szmodics was given as a free but not even a yellow. It was a deep dark red, a nasty full force blow to the ribs/throat.
It's as bad as challenge as I have seen in a long time.
Not sure i'd agree with that one. On the balance of things, they were far more cynical.
It reminded me of the crazy over the top build up to Euro 2012
We will never have a better chance to win a game.
2 up.
Opposition basically playing with 10 men, as their no19 is probably worst international footballer I've seen.
Shame about the penalties. 2 very weak efforts. If you aren't confident, put your boot through it as hard as you can.
That free kick for their equaliser though second Czech goal was never a free kick. Shocking decision.
Bottled it these players will never get a better chance of going to a World Cup. It's no wonder most of these players are playing for mid table championship clubs more concerned about tattoos than playing football.
The only ones I can remember since then were Spain in 2002 and Slovakia in 2020.
I swore I heard one of the commentators say Tuesday is a friendly
Arry given shurrup ,no one on the near post ffs
Great so the free for their second wasn’t a free
I hate VAR but considering they scored from it , very frustrating.
