The recruitment pause applies to every grade. I think the point being lost(or I am not making it correctly) is that recruitment was just happening whether it’s needed or not. Money was being thrown around like snuff at a wake. If a position is needed and the relevant line manager can prove it then the position will be filled. There’s just a bit more control going on. Regarding drivers it’s different cos there’s a lot of flux in the grade and the lead in time to get a driver is so long.
They could, at a push, train about 120 drivers per year via Inchicore and Mallow if they really wanted to. There’s a cliff edge coming soon where a certain age group will have retired and the need to replace drivers will slow. There will be always a need to replace drivers at certain rates. The point is also coming where no more trains can run because of infrastructure limitations too, single track railway around the country mostly. That further limits future recruitment.
Cheers pal, sorry there was a lot of talk about the drivers I just wanted to double check. Well I could be on the panel for a while so. I havent heard anything since I passed the interview on the 19th of feb, medical a week later and the SCAAT test 3 weeks ago.
I think there is still a lot more that can be squeezed out of the infrastructure. For example, there is talk of an hourly service to Sligo, which would presumably need approximately double the number of drivers. Some new passing loops would be needed but these are being planned. I am sure similar things could be done for other lines (which I am not familiar with).
Craftworkers still in short supply.
The don't have the trains available for hourly to Sligo, until 22000 sets are freed up. Not to mention any extra services make delays a lot more likely.
@Citizen Six Hopefully they get on to me soon so, havent heard anything since I done the SCAAT test (dont know if that a good thing or bad). When I was talking to the guy from HR. Basically he was telling me he just has to mark up the test and since I have everything else done all I have to do is wait to hear back. Do you know if they contact you if you are not successful?
Yeah, they'll contact you if you don't make it. Just check in case it goes into your spam.
Cheers for that pal. Yeah I have been checking that to lol. Yeah its just a waiting game now. So far no news is good news.
And another week in limbo goes by 🤣
I feel for you.
I know I hate waiting 🤣
if it’s any consolation to anyone it took 16 months from application to job offer. Waiting was painful but worth it.
Currently 12 months since completion of Line manager interview and Medical...🤣 Phase 1 was October 2024
Are you looking for a particular depot?
In for Galway
Hello all, I applied for general and dart in the most recent competitions. Passed online cull and stage 1 in person assessments, ive been invited to stage 2 assessments in April.
I dont mind sitting on a panel for year im used to it, but are there jobs going and will a decent nunber of drivers be taken on from the 2026 campaign ?
What area did u apply for? And when was your in person interview?
Fair play to u, that's a serious amount to have done 2months
Tis quiet in here.
Well lads I got an email last week to say I passed all thresholds and im just to wait and they will be in touch as soon as they can. So let's hope this hiring pause is over soon lol.
Hey there,
I sat phase 2 assessment test yesterday in inchicore. I got an email today to complete the personality questionnaire.
Does this mean I'll get an interview?
Yeah, as long as you answer it with what they are looking for.
Cheers
Cheers Citizen6
Oh, the personality questionnaire is that quick after finishing phase 2?
Guess I didn't make it then 😢
When did you complete phase 2
Did phase 2 last Monday 14/04
No news is good news. Don't lose hope just yet
I finished mine on Friday the 10th and am still waiting, but a friend who finished on Tuesday the 14th already got their 16PF invite by Thursday. Even though they mentioned a two-to-three-week wait for the 16PF, it's weird that some people are getting it so fast. Maybe it’s based on Phase 2 performance? Who knows?
Anybody got any news on the next regional training class?
