Im looking to potentially buy an apartment in Ballybrack, the crossroads by the apple green specifically. I’m not overly familiar with the area and just wanted to know if anyone had any feedback regarding antisocial behaviour/ safety concerns? A lot of previous discussions on the topic are several years old so looking for some more recent opinions! thanks in advance

It's improved somewhat since the 80s/90s but theres still a lot of social housing and scrote teenagers. There were some fairly loud anti immigration protests there not too long ago with the usual type too.

My dad grew up there and my gran still lives around the area but I'd never live there myself.

You would be at the edge of the rough area. It gets rough as you go west (towards Loughlinstown), posh as you go east (towards Killiney).

I used to live in Cabinteely when I was a teenager and we would have always associated Ballybrack as where the 'undesirables' lived. I'm being polite here. Lots of run ins with yobs, but that was over 20 years ago.

I'd say you would be fine and I would be happy to buy an apartment there.

I'd agree with that. Its not a patch on what it was in the past, when unemployment was high and drugs were a serious problem, especially down towards Loughlinstown.

The area around the village has been slowly gentrified over the past 30 years, which has led to some issues of its own, but generally speaking, the worst you will deal with is fairly low level antisocial behaviour, teenagers engaged in vandalism and low level intimidation. The same lads would s**t their pants if anyone fronted up to them. You know the sort.

The gated apartments are pretty sound there, I wouldn't be massively concerned about local carry-on. I'd actually be more worried about the solvency of the OMC and who the property agents are. Which is not an issue specific to Ballybrack or anything. but just a word to the wise.

Still plenty of rough types hanging around out there. Friend of my sister's was mugged near Tesco car park on a dark evening few months back.

They've also had the car broken into twice in the five or so years they've lived there. This is the Kilbogget Park side, near the village might be a little better.

It has been ravaged since the far right riots in 2024. In any case, I believe the far right was started by segments of Irish society and not from abroad even though it may be coordinated from abroad now.

I can't say I know for sure, but there has been a huge turnaround in the community makeup. I don’t fully understand how social‑housing allocations have been handled, but the community makeup has changed a lot compared to when I grew up here, and when, I grew up here, the people had lived here for a long, long time and everyone got on.

It isn't a new generation or the next generation, there is a gradual change in actual makeup and people who actually love the place like they used to. I'm disappointed because I always felt accepted and proud of my neighborhood. In any case, I haven't and won't give up on it and will keep coming back to work on turning it around.

Finally, I was followed and rammed off the road last Saturday afternoon after making the post on the health section. It wasn't kids and the person involved was driving a BMW X5. Its not neighborhood kids.

    Thats utter bollocks lad.

Also your entire post suggests you are soft in the head.

    Anyway, post reported for lunacy.

Sorry if this sounds facetious but, some of my friends really f8cked me up with hash growing up now I’m paying for it with mental health difficulties. It hasn’t made me dopey or anything it’s just I sometimes make assumptions and connect dots when they’re not there. I try and adhere to legal reasoning and legal concepts such as using facts and not opinions but it’s hard to be abreast of all legal concepts and to use logic and reason in all cases. I hope you can understand I’m not trying to stir sh1t up.

Also I’ve been physically attacked in winter time becuase my eyes narrow and get rings around them and my pupils withroaw due to the lack of light and low serotonin levels in my body due to the lack of light. Those people have violently attacked me calling me a vampire and that I am stealing their energy - I try not to rise to do those attacks but they becoming constant now.

Also I’ve started body building to counteract those side effects and it’s really helping in the winter now.

Let me caveat this by saying if any of this is true.

    1. You messed yourself up with hash, not your friends.
    2. You say you try and use facts and opinions yet you believe a poster from Boards ran you off the road because of a post you made?
    3. Who are these people constantly physically attacking you calling you a vampire?

    1. There was most certainly more than one person involved therefore I can’t solely take the blame. This is a societal problem and not solely at fault.
    2. I won’t get into more details here thanks.
    3. I'm not going to make accusations and I wouldn’t be at liberty to divulge any information on this site on who I believe is behind it.

Now at the risk of being rude I don’t need to be lectured about my life choices on here, I am well aware of my mistakes without some stranger telling me about them.

I want to just make a follow up admission and caveat. All that stuff I said about hash and weed and pot, it’s bullshit and was a joke partially to make fun of my dopeyness but also completely out of context and character, anyone who knows me, knows how anal, and how straight laced I am. And in fact the stuff about my neighbourhood in Regional, banking or buying a property here in Current Affairs, as well as stuff extended networks in Ivy leagues and in the Soc Dems thread or cost of houses thread in Current Affairs forum, are not necessarily fully accurate to present timelines or facts either, other stuff is not necessarily true to recent events or timelines either, having lived in Australia in recent years.

The timelines in question which I made those posts on entanglements from England in the Current Affairs forum, as posts on personal financial situations pertinent to the war in Ukraine in the Politics forum and fleshing them out with details about extended networks in Ivy leagues and in the Soc Dems thread in Current Affairs forum, are not necessarily fully accurate to present timelines or facts either. At least that is what I dream was true - haha!

In fact, the above statement as to pot smoking was made after I took a photo with a female police officer outside the state penitentiary in Las Vegas (with giant palm trees in the background) after I was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer there after my first stint with the Fijiian national team – true story, I have since moved to Australia where I have stayed ever since. And I have taken up heavy weight boxing. Also true story not body building - haha. Although im Fijian in spirit only, I’m the opposite in real life to the stuff I previously posted on here although all of it is true only thirteen years ago, so, sorry for the embellishments above, LOL!!!
