It's not remotely baffling. Israel has by far the most organised and vicious propaganda lobby of any state on earth and they have vast influence and power over the western mainstream media and business speheres and as a result over western politics. There isn't another state with an even remotely comparable lobby.
Keir Starmer wanted to win an election as Labour party leader. He understood that the price of that was capitulation to the Israel lobby, and the Israel lobby basically taking over and purging the Labour party of any challenge to Israel.

Israel also openly manipulated the situation so the most extreme elements in Palestinian politics and ideology would be promoted and the more moderate elements sidelined.
Israel wanted an enemy which wanted violence because it itself wanted to violently crush any chance of a Palestinian state or civil society and steal the land. It's far easier to do that when you have an opponent which the world considers unreasonable.

The idea that Israel didn't want the relatively moderate PLO, and so was happy to feed the extremists of Hamas, may very well have some truth to it. For the exact reasons that you say.

What if they actually allowed the Palestinian state to be formed even with the 40-45% of the land on offer. Would they be in a better position today ?
Because even now, their great friends in Lebanon refuse to grant them citizenship or full integration into society, and at this stage some have to be 3rd or not 4th generation born in Lebanese refugee camps.

I consider any journalist to be a journalist, regardless of their political persuasion.

Some journalists are not journalists, they are activists. Philip Dwyer is a clear example, there are many others out there as well.

So the same people that condemn Iran for attacking civilians don't have issue with a journalist (even if you believe them to be a citizen journalist or propagandist) being attacked by Israel as they don't like who they work for.

It is a propaganda outfit for one of the worst regimes on the planet. They are actively involved in torture. They actively work to destabilise the West. Working for them makes you a terrible person yes.

That wasn't said by anyone. We have seen propaganda from several sides (Ukraine, Russia, Israel, Hamas) over the last few years about the number of "journalists" killed by those opposing them. We used to have clear ways of identifying journalists rather than propagandists - membership of organisations like the NUJ. I am not proposing we do this again, but in the past, such propagandists ended up being hanged.
