My one with the blackspot was very sore, vet gave her noroclav and left the scalpel with me. The relief was instant when the teat came off. She's milking away on the 3 now
That's sore alright. I culled one of them before. My father said it is contagious which gave me a fright.
Haven't Had one in years
I think the rugby players use super glue on cuts. Might be wrong.
No you are right. Chatgpt wasn't happy with my asking about hotglue on a teat. Says it's too hot. Cools and sets instantly anyway.
Not contagious its lime burning teat ends
NNot A big issue for us
we leave the calf with the cow 24hrs like nature intended , take the calf away and skip a feed then on to 12 teat feeder straight away .only the very odd calf gives me bother after that.
We'd be the same, i put them in single pens when they come off cow, skip a feed. Give bottle and into group pen on teat feeder. I think it's very important for cow and calf that calf is licked dry by the cow. This taking the calf straight off the cow doesn't sit well with me.
Plenty of vaseline with tea tree oil mixed in rub into cut
Sudocream, is my go to, and milk a small bit, every day by hand if she let's you
What are fat FR cows making in the mart at the moment?
Any where from €2.40-2.60/kg from what I’ve seen on LSL.
But others may know different.
Are they fat or fleshy. Fleshy suitable for slaughter as above. Real good fat cows could make 3/kg
Anyone realise all the calf price reports in media price per age why they dont put price per weight as age is musleading i once see calved in mart 120kg 4 weeks old they done a fair thrive
There Was alot of talk about Teak Fr7929s numbers dropping alot on EBI last year. I used him heavily and I heard they are very nervous in the parlour from few sources. I am glad to say now that they are actually a pleasure. Very happy with my heifers this year. Last year I had a good few of them light or blind on one quarter. Perfect so far this year. I'd say there was one bitch sucking the. alot last year and she did damage. I have a suckling aid thing on her nose now.
They are factory fit. Getting fed since the end of December
Depending on the factory price you are goingvto get but if it 6/6.2 P/O price or thereabouts I be inclined towards the factory
get rid of her… you'll get on grand without her around
Are 76mm standard diagonal feed barriers sufficient for a mature stock bull over winter?
Converting part of shed for a bull but would prefer not go for single bar
Have a look at bull headlock barrier it will be a few quid xtra but it mean if doing anything with bull no need to walk him to crush safety is first .
I’ve a crush headlocking gate next to the feed rail in both of my bull pens. Occasionally I open it and give them a shake of nuts so they are used to sticking out their heads. The day you need to catch a bull it’s no bother at all.
I see Graise was down in @jaymla627 farm today.
Graise likes a big black and white cow but he likes money in the bank more he said. Says it all really about why he's advising and not milking. I'm presuming by black and white he means friesian.
Anyone hear make use of the milking parlour grants with the last few years? We’d only be looking to do an upgrade. Our Teagsc advisor said to dream on and only 10% of people get it that apply, is that true?
The still photograph of the JEX's lined up in the milking parlour were his own cows that he milked in NZ a couple of years ago...milked 10/7.
They were gorgeous looking cows to be fair to him.
I suppose we could all line up a few cows for a photograph. He made some good points alright. I'm definitely guilty of breeding ones with misshapen udders, bad feet, etc because they are good milkers. Keep the emotion out of it is good advice.
Abit like all dairy advisors and ai reps experts none milk or ever milked a cow.Same as calf milk replacer experts most never reared a single calf there entire life
Was refused on one in the last tranche.Only slurry storage and farm safety will get priority from now on.Have an application in for the 60% slurry storage grand but im not holding my breath for it either as people are finding it hard enough getting paid their grant money once work is completed
The money comes through. Problem probably at present isthere was significant nu.bers approved in 2024 and early 2025. The budget for the department was probably very tight and they were slowing the grant payment late last year to transfer some payments into this years budget. The amount approved from now on will probably speed up.
Gotbpaid two fairly fast last year one was held up because of an issue with photos but it got sorted and was paid a week ago claim went in last July.
I have always assumed department money comes whennit comes. I seldom budget it into the system until it arrives. I am still awaiting 2024 & 2025 farm payment. Documentation went in a few week ago through Teagasc, I rang the department and they cannot give me an update. Teagasc advisor is on holidays so I will.have to wait for him
