The Hyundai INSTER sub-compact EV with 355km range will be officially released later this month. It was teased today and based on the CASPER ICE model available in some markets. Thoughts?
Noticed this also - AI seems to have it mixed up with the previous recall for the sharp studs under the seat. Who knows, maybe it's the magic ICCU fix!
The Hyundai Inster is subject to a new service campaign, identified as
50D296
which relates to the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). This appears to be a recent update, with reports surfacing in early March 2026, aimed at addressing potential ICCU failures.
I tried to get more info on this but the AI responses just seem to be based on some facebook posts -I'll check with the dealer to see if they know anything about it.
Goodwill for when the replacement dies?
It's possible this was done alongside my second ICCU replacement as there was an additional piece of work on the work order.
Is this the fabled software patch?
Has anyone fitted a dashcam on the Inster? I wonder if the connector for the auto dimming mirror is the same as for the Ioniq 5/Kia EV6. There was a company selling a connector with a usb splitter - really handy to power the dashcam, that's how I installed it on my EV6.
Not an Inster, but I have mine running off the ODB port, you can get an adaptor and run the cable under the trim.
…and my ICCU failed completely one day before replacement was scheduled. Night before I woke up to what I thought a dead Zappi yet car got charged to 100%. Checked the fuse box in the garage (thought Zappi was wired to that one) - all fine but Zappi won’t turn on. Then my man remembered that Zappi was actually wired into the houses’s fusebox and that got tripped. Turned Zappi back on so that was a relief! Connected the car to the charger last night only to wake up this morning to the car still at 39% as the night before. Tried granny charger - nothing. No error message either. I was lucky the car wasn’t fully discharged and that it happened on the day of my appointment with them. Took it to them this morning and should have it back by 1pm.
Was it still charging the 12V?
That I don’t know. Car was ready to go after 3 hours this morning.
I assume it was then. ..when my ICCU went in the Ioniq 5, the little red 12V battery icon (known from ICE cars) stayed on even in READY mode. You'd have noticed that I think.
People buy a Leapmotor TO3 and you will not have to worry about ICCU problems or condensation in your boot or on your camera or any other problems the overrated Inster has.
I would have noticed as I had looked at dashboard for anything unusual several times plus when taking it to the dealership but there had been nothing. Car was charging last night at 6.5 kw with current set to 100%. Today it’s doing 6.8 but not above 7 like before. Definitely not the charger as the other car is getting the usual charge rate.
People also buy leapmotor XY and are shortly ready to drive it to a wall because they are so buggy.
I agree the Leapmotor isn't perfect.
However if the Leapmotor T03 group I'm on is anything to go by.
The Leapmotor is less bothersome then the Inster.
I'm on Facebook groups for the following
General Peugeot EVs (was an e208/e2008 group when I joined).
Puma Gen E (x2)
R5 (x2)
R4
Inster (x 2)
Leapmotor T03.
Volvo EX30
Even with the battery recall on the Volvo and Volvos comms being bad - I still think the Inster is the worst of the lot for reliability.
Totally unscientific i know and usual bias of such groups toward people posting with issues applies.
The other thing is - if we take other manufacturers like the Volvo battery issue.
Ive more confidence a Puma Gen E or R4 issue would get fixed and I'd be less likely to have the issue in first place.
I'm a happy with my current Hyundai EV chap but I'm also a "I won't be buying another Hyundai EV" chap.
Can confirm that the Inster (at least the 49kW version) auto dimming mirror is compatible with the Dongar 10H adapter for dash cams. Same model as the adapter for our EV6.
The adapter will fit (just barely!) behind the cover, so the whole thing can look very neat!
First thing that came on Google :)
Common Issues and Complaints
Thanks for that -I was wondering how to move my dashcam to the Inster. That adapter looks good.
So not peefect then either lol. I still prefer it.
I see another service notice added for my VIN - 60D066
Anyone have any idea what this is about?
Where are you seeing these?
I use this site to check my VIN: https://recalls.hyundai.co.uk/
After I got all the outstanding updates done it looks like the charging issue may be resolved. I'm back charging at 7.2kW/100% charge rate.
…and new ICCU lasted a few weeks. Monday night it suddenly started charging at 7.1kW and after 1.5 hours, having consumed exactly 11kW it dropped to 1.4kW and started at that until I woke up. Stopped charger and started it again - same 1.4kW. Unplugged the car and plugged it back in - it resumed at 7.1kW. I could only charge it for an hour then as I had to drive. Last evening I decided to kick off the charge in the evening so that I could watch it. It again kicked off at 7.1kW (even though for the first two weeks it wasn't going further than 6.8kW) and after 1h30min it dropped to 1.4kW again.
Set current to 90% and left it charging overnight - it charged all night at the same rate of around 6.5kW without any issues.
I've no idea what's going on. Going to call the dealer now.
Sorry to hear.. There's a new ICCU related campaign: 60D066
I hope it'll fix it for you - instead of another ICCU replacement.
Only have my Inster a couple of weeks, but I've noticed that the charger says it has exported 20.2kw's in the 3hr charging window, but the car is saying it only got a 30% increase in battery charge. 49Kw battery size so 20kw's is roughly 40%. Previously the car had been getting roughly 35% on the same charge. Zappi home charger and our Nissan Leaf seems to get the full amount.
Now the inster does precondition the battery, but I can't imagine that 5kw's are simply leaking away. Is this loss normal?
Dealer rang me back and told me to bring the car for a software update that came out last week. I am taking it to them tomorrow afternoon, so we shall see.
Mine's been charging solidly at the 7.2kW rate since I got the updates done - I guess time will tell if the issue is fully resolved
So, onto the next problem with the car (number 5). Loud buzzing sound when I press the start button. From what I can see on the various web forums this possibly indicates a problem with a three-way coolant valve. Anyone else hit this problem?
