Seeing as we have threads for the 90's,00's and 10's let's see how an 80's one goes?
Reaching No.6 here and No.5 in the UK in 1989
Kon Kan - I Beg Your Pardon

From their debut album this was co-written with Siobhan Fahey's boyfriend Robert Hodgens who then released it a year later with his own band to much bigger success.

Laid Back - Sunshine Reggae
some of these I have heard on the 80s party shows on weekend evenings on Q102
Fun fact. A Good Heart was written by Maria McKee following her break up with Benmont Tench. Benmont Tench wrote You Little Thief around the same time.
Reaching No.6 here and No.8 in the UK in 1989. After splitting with Stock Aitken Waterman after their only hit the disappeared and haven't been able to be tracked down for interviews or reunions.

Michael Frank's - Island Life was another airplay hit, I would have thought second only to 'when sly calls ' on Nova.
The following two songs by Michael Franks were very much the definition of "Radio Hits", getting a lot of airplay on Dublin superpirate Radio Nova, but not actually big chart hits.
Firstly, the one which was played most - When Sly Calls (Don't Touch that Phone).
The second most played from the same album (Passionfruit) was Rainy Night in Tokyo.
Speaking of Feargal Sharkey his follow up to A Good Heart is rarely heard these days despite reaching No.3 here and No.5 in the UK
Feargal Sharkey - You Little Thief
Following the break up of Yazoo Vince Clarke and producer Eric Radcliffe formed a side project. Teaming with recently split Undertones front man Feargal Sharkey they released just one single which reached No.4 in the UK charts
The Assembly - Never Ever
Mental as Anything. Were popular for a time in the 80's when there was a craze for everything Australian (blame Crocodile Dundee)
Sharpe and Numan - Change Your Mind
Tony Carey
Reaching No.5 in both the Irish and UK charts in 1988 after the band read the book The Manual (How to Have a Number One the Easy Way) by The KLF.
Edelweiss - Bring Me Edelweiss
