Texoil dropped prices by 60euro for 1000 litres since friday. Was 640 now 580 in Galway It's going to be cheaper in 2-3 weeks as crude oil dropped 23% on todays markets
I hope so 🙏 hopefully fuel prices will also drop as well as in some places it's over 2 euro a litre now
At least diesel and petrol prices are increasing in line with the expected 8-10% Home heating oil has nearly doubled for no reason at all
I'm low on oil but possibly enough for a month depending what way the weather is.
But my boiler broke last year and I bought a few oil rads to ride me over. So what I'm doing now, I have solar and battery, I run the oil rads during the day when the sun is out so "free heating" and then when it's cold cold ill put the heating on for half an hour. Dropped my usage of oil by 1 hour a day. Using smart plugs with a separate smart thermostat that keeps everything ticking over.
I was reading that today somewhere. Kerosene also costs more to refine than diesel, hence the increased costs on what's already an expensive product
My boiler burns diesel ( marked gas oil) Always a few c more than kero due to some tax, and my quotes still went up so it kind of doesn't make sense…to me.
Brent on the march upwards again. The parlour tricks of Trump and team haven't worked.
Attacks today on multiple ships including oil tankers parked in Iraqi waters shown that the straights aren't safe
All great things I see. ... The problem must be solved according to various sources on here.
Your boiler also burns HVO perhaps? Might be worth investigating
Nobody "needs" 500L
If heating is controlled, 500L would last through into October/November. Do a proper measurement of what is in the tank - a long pole will suffice.
A tank will normally hold 1100L. If it's a necessity, get 300L
What would be better is to find out when she had the last boiler service. If it was more than 2 years ago, I'd get that done. That alone will see efficiency increase. Also, if she allows, do a quick check around the house of lighting and if radiators are on in rooms rarely used - many elderly people will still have old style bulbs. Then check all her windows, see if they open/close easily. Give the seals a wipe and spray wd40 on the hinges.
Unfortunately, trump's declaration that the war is ending has been found out to be total bullsh1t and he's realising that the son of Khomeini is a radical loonatic.
This now means two radical loonatics are at war and neither will back down.
Prices are going up substantially again
Never an option in the drop downs.
Off topic, needs to be replaced anyway…waiting for the unit that burns H2O…😊
You'll be waiting a while and HVO is more expensive than Diesel so not much point either way
Last few times i ordered oil Kerosene was already a little cheaper and a lot of "Gas Oil" burners can use Kero.
Sorted, payment processing issue
Good to hear. Thankfully you didnt follow the advice of the below
Any local places selling off the pump.
I dipped the tank and there was 10 inches left.
Bought 200 l off the pump at 1.20 a litre.
It was 870 euro for 500l.
200l was 240 euro .
Might be an option
That is fantastic, you'd expect everyone that can to do it, but I dont have any barrells or jerry cans, unfortunately not an option Going to give it another 2 weeks and bite the bullet what 250 euro get me, at the moment its 100 litres, that plus what I have left should get me into the summer where im hoping a drop happens
Just paid €850 for 500l. Ouch.
Corrib Oil sell 20l white plastic jerry cans for €8 if that is an option for others. You can get 100l in home in the car boot that way. It got me out of a hole at Christmas but was a bit messy trying to pour them into the tank. I think I'd use a pump if I was doing it again.
If you can get an ahem.. "lend" of a traffic cone they make a great funnel for exactly that purpose 😉
even easier option - an empty 5L bottle of water with the bottom cut away
Prices have steadied, but are still staying elevated. On Friday refineries were circa €1.05 per liter kerosene, €1.01 for litre Diesel.
Add 16c carbon, 2c Nora and about 14c for importer and local distributor and you are circa €1600/1000L
Gov may drop vat to 9%
Dont use oil any more but used to go to the kero pump all the time with jerry cans.
1 of these from the co-op was about 5 euro. Sit the can on the top of oil tank and turn the tap. No spillage 👍️
You can also place the drum on top of the tank and siphon the fuel using a length of hose. If you cant place the drum above the tank, you can get a water pump off Amazon for less than a tenner to do the trick.
Does anyone know where to get the bar that goes through the oil tank cap?
Ours was lost recently.
Use a screwdriver or a tent peg if it'll fit!
Buy a long bolt & nut from local hardware shop
Lid, bar and pin here for €10 plus delivery. https://thehardwareshop.ie/product/oil-tank-lid-lidbar-and-pin?srsltid=AfmBOorPMkg88W53VuDE1SdhEe-bMKJUVCmncamyQCQqApKJq3vEFji- Alternatively hardware or plumbing that sell tanks, boilers should have this.
Thanks folks
please please change the thread title
@Sheep Shagger @Blade @LFCFan @Nody The OP said they tried to change the thread title earlier in the thread but because it's so old it needs Mods or Admins to if they think it needs changing. I don't know because prices have jumped for now, but what happens when they fall again. What is acceptable? Change it to just "Home heating oil prices".
Sorted :)
praise be the lort
Well it is my boards name at the end of the day.
