    Lads!
I'm on Sky BB until 28th of this month, €30 per month. I haven't called them yet what they can offer. Eir seems to be good, €34.99/month + €100 credit, so €26.65/month for 1 year.
When should I start the switching process? Billing date is on 24th, the next bill (covering the first out of contract month) will be DD'd on 25th March, with an increased price of €64. I don't want either to pay that and break the contract.

    Hi folks,

Looking at switching broadband to Sky. I see a note on their website that from 1st April broadband prices will increase by €3.50 per month.

If I order now in March does that increase come into effect this year or will it be April 2027?

I saw some posts regarding new orders from some providers made in March will only have increases in April 2027 but not sure if this applies to all providers or not.

    @gunnerfitzy
    Their terms read:

From 1 April 2026, the standard price of certain Broadband products will increase by €3.50. If you are a customer who is new to Sky, this will not impact your offer price for the duration of your offer.

Plus you are getting a special price, not a standard one.
So no, you won't pay it.

You have to be outside your minimum term to switch, so you can ask the new provider to take over the day after your contract end date. Give them your UAN, listed on your bill, and ensure you're staying on the same access network (open eir, NBI).

You'll get refunded for the days you aren't with Sky on the next month's bill, just ask customer service then for the refund to be sent back to your bank account.

    Thank you!

Should start the switching process on the last day then?
Oh, I've flipping forgot the access network thing, been on SIRO (Vodafone, Sky), so the transition over to (open) Eir, would come with new ONT installation too, making the switch less seamless?

Oh yeah then it'll be a switch, eir doesn't use SIRO at all. I'd get in contact with eir now and tell them when you want them to start, as a new installation will be needed if you don't have it currently.

It'll involve a another fibre cable being brought in and another ONT installed. open eir usually follow the phone line route or maybe up into your telecoms box on the outside of the house.

You should be able to tell eir to cancel Sky for you under the new IAS switching process, they'll ask for some account details. If they won't, but they should, you'll have to give Sky 30 days notice for cancellation instead.

I've received yesterday the email with bill increase from 28th of April with Sky for 500Mb deal.
I called their customer service(did not had to wait even 1 min for someone to pick up) and wanted to move to 1Gb for 35 a month. The guy on the phone could not give me this deal, so he updated the account so I wont get charged when switching to another company.
Actually he even said to switch away every year or when possible for best prices.

I requested a call from puretelecom via onebigswitch with the 30euro offer.

In 5 minutes I "canceled" with sky and moved to puretelecom.

Is like all this service providers don't want to keep you as customer.
Why not offer the new customer deal to existing ones?

In case you have received the email from sky with the price increase, call them before switching to another provider.
They would have to update your account not to get charged for breaking the contract.
Then you are free to switch.

They are required to give you a period to leave as they increased the price without it being mentioned specifically in the contract at the start.

If you are cancelling outright then you need to give Sky 30 days notice but if you are switching you should be able to straight away, once you've received the Contract Change Notification. Just give the new provider your UAN and ensure you're staying on the same access network (open eir, SIRO, NBI).

Eir contract up next month. Would be happy to stay with eir due to supporting IPoE/DHCP. Tried Pure previously which someone mentioned supported IPoE but there actually two backhaul options and ended up using PPPoE. I dont think anyone else supports DHCP? Has anyone successfully given eir cancellation notice and then signed up in partners name? Looking to avoid any down time.

    Thanks!
If I can get BB for €30 again, it's not worth the hassle for the sake of 40 quid. When the year is up, I might face ONT change again when switching.

With Pure Telecom, it seems to be randomly selected which backhaul core network your placed on when ordered, either BT or eir. Someone on here asked Pure Telecom for eir and they agreed.

Virgin through SIRO/NBI also uses IPoE but MAC address cloning of their Hub to your own router is needed also. They don't provide service through SIRO/NBI if they have their own FTTP/coax available to you afaik.

my sky ended today and pure started.

My pure BB router hasn't arrived so its working via the sky router for some reason.

I rang pure and it seems they hadn't even dispatched the router yet.

Yeah with some providers it doesn't matter what PPPoE details are entered, it'll work.

They should have made sure to send out the router before activation though.

You can use your own router/mesh system instead also -

    Connection Type - PPPoE

    Username - puretelecom@puretel.ie

    Password - broadband1

VLAN ID 10 in VLAN/IPTV settings

    Thanks appreciate that.

I don't have my login details for the router yet, which is a pain as the alarm company is completely tomorrow for a separate issue and would of got them to do the door bell etc on the new network

You can change the WiFi name and password on the new router to match your current details on the Sky router, devices should then just automatically connect. You can view the videos here -

Am currently with sky and received the letter about the price increase and that I could cancel without termination charges. So I attempted to go with the Pure offer and sent them everything they needed to do the switch over. However, Pure needed a universal account number (UAN) so I gave them the one listed on my Sky bill, which is a 5 digit number. Pure said it had to be an 8 digit number, which based on a quick internet search 8 digit seems to be standard. Pure told me to mention Comreg to Sky and insist upon the 8 digit number. Sky's explanation was long winded in response and referenced different infrastructure of different operators, which I got lost in. They said I could still go to Pure, but I would need to get a new installation installed, a new ONT box. So I just held off for now, but I have already told Sky I was switching and they would be sending someone out to collect their equipment.

Do you know which access network you are on currently with Sky? - open eir, SIRO, NBI

open eir will have an 8 digit UAN or CRN that starts with 888. SIRO will have a SIRO Account Number, that starts with SI. NBI have a NBI Line ID, I'm not sure of the number layout with NBI.

You'll know which your on by looking at the ONT that was installed on the wall. If it's a Huawei ONT with no logo, it's most likely open eir. SIRO will most likely have their logo on their Huawei ONT. NBI will most likely have their logo on their Nokia ONT.

Thank you. No, I don't unfortunately.

I don't see any branding on it. The UAN is a 5 digit number and the CRN number starts with the digit 6.

That's a Virgin fibre ONT for Sky, etc.. UAN is 5 digits

Digiweb have launched service over Virgin recently but it won't be as cheap as Sky

Yeah, as mentioned above, that's a Virgin FTTP Nokia ONT. You can switch between Sky, Vodafone, Digiweb and Virgin through Virgin FTTP.

So yes, you'd have to have a different access network installed if you wanted to go with Pure Telecom. You can check which are available to you here -

Digiweb through Virgin FTTP is €35pm for 500Mb -

I see VM are doing 1Gig for €30 and no activation fee, might be of some interest to others on here.

you can connect to Sky using IPoE, you have to set a couple of DHCP options.

It’s only available to people on their old coax network. I tried it and cancelled after 1 day as dropouts and latency were off the scale but a lot will depend on the quality of the cabling in your estate and into your house. It doesn’t rely on Siro so it’s not the same quality.
