5 more wins and a draw will probably be enough to secure 3rd place, hard to see Chelsea and Pool get 70 points ?

    Been a good weekend

I thought Kobi and Dalot were better than usual today

Some weekends everything just clicks, unreal set of results.

A lovely weekend all things considered 👌😁 solidifying top 4 is the main priority, and this week is a massive step towards that.

A better more attacking LB and we could see more from Cunha. Will give teams more to think about when defending that area of the pitch. Hopefully Dorgu is back for the Leeds game. Would like to see him tried there for some games. But it will also be good to have another option back for the wings once he's around.

Dalot always puts in the effort and arrives in great positions but unfortunately that’s where his lack of talent lets him down but I would still rather keep him for another year and get rid of Shaw who is just a shadow of a former player.

Mainoo was slightly better today but his last few performances have been very poor.

As others have said here if we decide to cash in on him for a midfielder with legs so be it.

I would agree. And I think you could say the same on the other side for Amad. IMO he played his best with Maz starting, Maz hasn't really been firing this year compared to last season when he was putting in minimum solid 7/10 performances every week. Not a flashy player just versatile and a good footballing brain. I think Afcon probably disrupted both their runs in the team, and I would hope form ticks up for both of them as we see out this season.

4 wins, if one of those is against Chelsea, should do it.

Is it too late to give Cas another year? He'd be solid in the CL next year with his experience.

Think Bruno will be in that bracket of greatest United player never to win a league title with the club.

Outstanding today. The best 4 best passers I have seen in Pl are Bruno, Fabregas, Scholes and De Bruyne.

Bruno has been sensational this season.

Great 3 points and it was the perfect weekend really. Spurs never get anything at Anfield so that feels like big 2 points dropped.

If we could win next week I think we will get CL.

Maguire was excellent again too. Just been rock this season.

He's absolutely a United legend already. Absolutely unbelievable player.

    Looking forward to the Comms.

No one is taking Shaw. He'll be off on free transfer in 12 months or be kept around as cover with a wage cut if his fitness which has been good this season continues.

Be foolish to cash in on Mainoo. If he was playing for someone else with a better midfield we'd be talking about why United should be chasing him.

Yeah I think so too but with the players needed to build up the squad along with improving the starting XI I think RB is a position that can be put on the long finger for a year or two.

Shaw did some brilliant defensive work today and got into the Villa box on more than one occasion. He won some important headers and had a couple of decent blocks too. I won’t be devastated if he is replaced and we need an upgrade eventually but they way some people talk about him you’d think he’s a pure liability.

Whiteside, Buchan and maybe Sammy Mcilroy. But Bruno would be no 1 for me for United players not to win the league..oh and of course Ralph Milne

Yeah I'm happy enough with the full backs we have (Dalot, Maz, Shaw) sure we could probably improve on them no one will confuse them for Cafu or Marcelo but they aren't unplayable. If you want to see an unplayable fb look at Malacia against Newcastle. The trio are fairly competent and could be supplemented by Dorgu and Amass so I wouldn't expect FB to be a priority.

We really should be trying to convince Case for just 1 more year, yes he is old and obviously he needs replacing as a first choice this summer but letting that leadership and quality he still has just walk away from the squad is insanity. Ideally he would hang around to help with the passing of the torch to his successor. Otherwise whoever we sign is getting fùcked in the deep end straight away with massive shoes to fill and no one to take the heat off them if they struggle at the start.

That’s a great weekend for United.

Chelsea, Liverpool and of course Villa dropping points send us into Friday knowing a win piles pressure on them three teams with Liverpool & Chelsea away from home in must win games that ain’t easy.

Who’d say Villa will deffo beat West Ham? - Not me.

    Time to turn the screw

Coppell and the Greenhoff brothers I would add to the list as well.

Just catching up on the thread after yesterdays game. Was surprised to read some of the comments as thought we played well enough first half and certainly better than we have done over the last few games. Second half we were very good for the most part.

Yoro has been improving game by game. It's clear to me he is a massive talent. Easy to forget how young he is. Thought he was very good yesterday.

Was a big win and the other results all went about as well as possible. I think if we beat Bournemouth then we would want to have a monumental collapse to not get Champs League.

I think Shaw had a better game yesterday, but he seems to have been coasting (doing the basics of defending but not a lot extra) for a while now... Still not sure if it's Carrick's instructions or him, or a combination of both, but he hasn't really been offering anything of note going forward in most recent games.

Saying that, if Dorgu can keep kicking on, LB isn't the highest of priorities given the urgency in other areas. The experience of Shaw with Dorgu's energy is a decent combo.

I would have RB as a priority ahead of it, neither Dalot or Maz really offer the quality needed. Both would be a good backup to someone else imo. Dalot is almost a very good player, he has a lot of the characteristics of a top fullback but falls short in a few key areas.

A top quality FB would help transform the team imo and I would be looking for someone on the right.

There definitely appears to be a trend from some that unless we are playing like prime Barca that the sky is falling. Tiresome tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,671 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

From when it was announced he was leaving the vibe I got was the club don't want him to stay rather than Casemiro wanting to leave.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,577 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

Not sure that's entirely fair, there's very little / no doom and gloom from what I see, but I do think people are a bit conflicted / cautious.

22 out of 27 points for Carrick is a pretty phenomenal return really. I think most fans, myself included, are very cautious about getting carried away. We've been here before with a caretaker manager.

While the results have been fantastic, I don't think it's unreasonable to look at the performances and say that they haven't been as fantastic. Now, I would take results over performances any day, but it is still holding my enthusiasm back a little.

And there's obviously the decision about our next manager hangs over these games as well. If Carrick keeps this up, they will give him the job imo. I would be concerned about that on a few levels, none moreso than I think Ineos will see it as an opportunity to get a manager on the cheap who is delighted to get the gig and who may not push for the same transfer budget that others might do.

We're in limbo, a very good limbo, but a limbo all the same.

looking at the remaining fixtures we'd have to fall off a cliff to not make the CL from here, with a decent chance of 3rd. So I'd say Carrick will be kept on. Next season will be the real test for him though. It's one thing playing one match a week with the occasional week off, we could easily have 50% more games next season.

Even though the announcement of leaving has been made I was reading if he started all the remaining games from January he could himself take the 1 year extension.
While that seemed unlikely back then I think he has started every game since.

The problem is we badly need legs in midfield and if we got an Anderson type with Casemiro it could be the answer but that means dropping Mainoo.

With the wages he is on I think Ineos will sacrifice him.
