Fun fact: it was due to Leila K that a young Finnish DJ called Ville Virtanen got his stage name. He repeatedly played her song "Rude Boy" (not released here) at a friend's party and got nicknamed "Rude Boy" which in turn inspired the name "Darude". Then he released a track called "Sandstorm" in 1999 and the rest is music history.

LOL, I was scrolling through and was thinking I heard most of them within the last 6 months (apart from maybe some of the cheesy one hit wonder type things) and didn't forget any of them, obviously depends on the radio stations you listen to or you how you have your music app tailored.
My teen daughter and her friends were over recently and were playing music and interestingly it was a lot of 90s dance hits, they weren't sure how to take it when I told them how old these songs were and how popular they would have been back when I was in my 20s.

It became massive in France apparently because it was used in an advert. Then spread to the rest of continental Europe.
