I thought so too but it seems it's private property now.
A large detached garage compliments and unique former railway platform and access to the former railway tunnel are unique features that are completely private and not subject to any rights of way or public access.
Dundrum castle is for sale, didnt even know there was one there.

Massive money pit for someone, you think DLR/OPW would buy it.
lovely. You’d get a Starbucks in there, no hassle
last I heard there was a greenway going in there coming from cork city over the old viaduct. Maybe this tunnel being private has scuppered the plan.
"Castle" is a rather grandiose term for that
I used to deal with someone through work who was involved in the West Limerick Greenway and he was telling me some of the old railway (which the greenway ran on) had been taken over by local farmers and had done so long enough ago that it was all legal. I think the council CPO’d the land back so wouldn’t be surprised if same happened here.
am i missing something about this road in Clonskeagh

Basically Eglington Road. And the mews house is bigger than most "normal" houses.
still seems very frothy pricing ! you'd buy similar in sandycove for 3.5m and i know where id rather be.
It’s not in Clonskeagh, it’s in Ranelagh on Clonskeagh Road. Each of these houses have two numbers; as it is 5 St James’sTerrace, it will also be 10 Clonskeagh Road. Have loved these for 35 years. The dual address is fairly rare in Ireland.
Being by the sea is nice but not everyone wants to live in the ‘burbs.
ah ok, Ranelagh makes a but more sense, still seems very expensive but im sure it'll sell!
I would have thought Ranelagh was a shorter trip from Trinity College as a starting point. It’s 24 minutes now, both by car and by bus. Then, Sandycove is at 48 minutes by Dart or car. Funny how mass transit scenarios are timed the exact same as car rides.
Of course, a house overlooking the sea is a superb alternative to a house in a dense inner city neighbourhood, but twice the travel time is considerable.
It’s on a busy road, close to a 4-way junction (lots of buses decelerating then accelerating etc) so far from ideal.
Always find it funny when they put the public transport options on the expensive houses. If was dropping 5m on a house, I dont think i'd be worrying about topping up my leap card for the bus/dart...
Your kid's nanny might like it 😁
Sandymount isn't a great seaside location though, is it? With the incinerator and busy container terminal just opposite. Sandycove on the other hand is fantastic and a better example of seaside living.
I used to live near this house and it's a fantastic area, I has it on my shortlist if I had €5m in the bank.
Great for the Ryder Cup with a driving range and rooftop putting green (seems to be one in the toilet as well)
Yes, true; you could find yourself in a dismal section of a sweet seaside town. Location on a micro level is important, too.
I've often wondered, if you had bottomless pockets, what could you actually do with a place like that? Surely there's protection orders and stuff like that?
why? just because your house is 5m quid or your car is 200k it wont make the traffic part for you, youd be surprised at who you see on the dart!
Any private buyer would need to sort out access for starters. And the applications to actually do anything with it. Once thats sorted then you'll realise you're overlooked by a couple of 5 story apartment buildings 20 ft away. And then you have to live in the concrete hell hole that is Dundrum.
It's very dark and dreary inside, even with all the lights on.
whomever took the pictures did a terrible job. they are all way too dark. a half decent photographer would make that look way better.
"Ruins" would be the more appropriate description
Love the snooker room
The dream. Needs a bar. The gun is a nice touch.
There's no photo of the wine cellar.
Photos are shocking! Anyone with a brain could sit down and run them through an AI in 5 min to brighten them.
Love the deck made out of railway sleepers, one classy part of a very tacky house.
That is a very carefully written description! It is not remotely a castle, the round bit is modern. There is a lime kiln with a bit of history, but a limekiln doth not a castle make. It would have looked way better with better photographs, it has some very nice features and the quality is lovely but makey-upey castles would not be my thing.
