I don't think Trump can just TACO out of this one easily. The Iranians do not appear to be in any mood for a ceasefire just yet. The attacks will continue unless Trump agrees to some serious concessions. That could involve significant sanctions relief, reparations or withdrawal of US forces from certain Gulf states (they could be kicked out anyway after this mess), or a mix of all three. Such a mess for the US.

Hardliners in the Iranian regime have only been looking for an excuse for a conflict like this for years and Trump has given them all the political cover they could have only dreamed for. Such a monumental miscalculation by the US administration. They've literally pissed off their own voters and the entire world bar Israel.

This war is actually quite bad for Trump politically. He got elected on a platform of America first and keeping inflation low. Oil above 100 dollars a barrel is a disaster for him as his supporters couldn't care less about the middle east but definitely care about the price of gas.

I think this war benefits Israel more but once Iran is destroyed militarily, they will no longer be able to close the straits of Hormuz and Trump will ensure that a puppet leader is installed to keep the oil flowing and to ensure there is no further nuclear enrichment.

The world will be a safer place after this murderous regime is history and for that we should all be grateful wheter on the left or the right.

Trump saying the oil tanker crews should "show some guts" and sail through the strait of Hormuz.

This might be a dumb question but why isn't the US offering its military personnel sail these ships while being escorted if he thinks there is no risk?

Just to follow up on the fact that this strike was not conducted by the Israelis, despite your bizarre, desperate desire for that to be the case. Here is an actual link showing it was most likely an American Tomahawk…

Still waiting for your source to show that, according to you, the Israelis have admitted to this bombing…

When Trump rounds up and kills tens of thousands of anti-ice protestors, then he will be just as bad as the late Ayatollah. Until then, you need to have a tiny bit of perspective.

As opposed to the other one hundred threads full of left-wing pontificating nonsense and hand-wringing about that evil, stupid Trump?

The US are absolutely smashing Iran. Why would they stop now while the Iranian army still exists?

The US is just throwing everything at the wall to see what will stick. Now they are telling their people that Iran was about to take over the Middle East.

Trump just hasn't thought this through, but Rubio is probably correct that he was forced into this conflict by Israel.

Hilarious in his tweet about Starmer, where he claimed the war was already won. Hard to know how he will react if the Iranian regime does not crack.

    Define smashing.

Iran is the size of central Europe, with many cities spread across a vast area. The people overthrew the Shah, so is killing 90 million people the only end?

I thought he had offered a navy escort, but considering the US broke every maritime convention when it sank an Iranian navy ship that was a guest in Indian waters then no one would begrudge Iran settling the score with a few cheap missiles sending a few billionaire dollars worth of navy assets to the bottom of the sea.

I bet though the Iranian's would actually rescue the survivors, unlike the savage yanks.

Meanwhile the Iranian chief of military gives his views on the debacle on another that is unfolding. Maybe just show, but seems quite relaxed about things.

Trump doesn't seem aware that the Iranian mainland is right beside the Strait. The IRGC can fire surface to sea missiles from there, launch drones etc. The cretin is under the impression that only the Iranian navy can disrupt shipping.

I wonder will Iran take this opportunity to truly collapse the state of Israel with the aim of freeing the Palestinian people from Jewish oppression. They may never have a better chance. It would be some legacy for the new supreme leader (if he survives) if they pulled it off.

A military defeat of Iran alone will not lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian navy has probably already been destroyed but still no ship is willing to traverse the strait and no insurance company is prepared to underwrite them. Even when all known military installations are destroyed, the residual risk from drones, mines and small boats will be such that convoys would require large numbers of naval vessels to protect them, far more than the US is likely to be willing to commit. The only way to secure the Strait of Hormuz is to replace the Iranian regime with a more compliant one - and right now that kind of political solution doesn't look like it's on the cards anytime soon.

It's also worth mentioning in this context is that Israel doesn't give a flying f**k about the Strait of Hormuz.

Mr. Bone Spurs saying that oil tanker crews should "show some guts"?

    Jesus wept.

Can I have some of what you're smoking?? The state of Iran will certainly collapse and they will have to keep choosing new leaders as previous ones are killed. The losing side of a war is generally occupied and does not have any choices to make.

Once again…the endless lying is astonishing.

And that goes for the liars on here too. You know who they are.

Iran is an Islamic theocracy. The "people" as you refer to them have no say in how it's run. You should at least learn something about the country before commenting.

How do we know the new Boogeyman is not compliant. Best to give him a few weeks to settle in, he has only been in the job for 16 hours and people are labelling him as Pol pot or something already. At least give him a chance to bury most of his family that Trump ordered to be killed while supposedly negotiating with them.

If the Iranian Regime does not collapse would that then mean Israel and the US are on the losing side of the war? it feels very much like a scenario where no one is defined as being on the losing side.

Well, that poster has posted that British jews are members of an "abhorrent tribe", and when questioned backed that up with a reference to illustrate that he absolutely did use the word tribe to refer to all jews. So you tell me. Does the poster "dislike" jews when he calls all jews "Abhorrent"? Is calling ALL jews "Abhorrent" anti-Semitic or not?

He makes the interesting point that Trump planned for a 48 hour war and that then trying to switch from that to a long term war is extremely difficult, given the lack of planning and preparation.

Trump will ensure a puppet leader ? He admitted recently that he had existing regime leaders in mind but they had been killed in the initial bombings. Great plan. See my post from earlier today on the legitimacy of foreign backed regimes which nobody denied.

How do you know the world will be a better place? Take Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan for example - does foreign driven regime change lead to stabilised countries? Does war and destabilisation lead to (a) more terrorism/extremism (b) less terrorism/extremism?

This war is already a disaster for Trump and the Republican candidates in the upcoming elections.

I agree, Israel are calling the shots here and this war will help them expand beyond agreed borders. They feel empowered now. At this point I can only deduce that people that are still pro-Netanyahu are a little dim.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

It does raise the question of how much strategic planning by the military is being compromised by the idiots in the Administration. As pointed out by the Iranian general, disrupting the deployment cycles of the carrier fleet has a lot of potential knock on implications. You're robbing Peter to pay Paul. The depletion of limited stocks for interceptor missiles is a big deal, the destruction of advanced radars is a massive loss.

It sounds remarkably similar to (his role model) Putin's mistake with Ukraine.

100% - Putin thought Zelensky would be killed or flee the country within 48 hours. He thought Russian troops would have taken Kyiv by the fourth or fifth day.
